You could def get in with just one gap year. Two sounds so overkill when you have decent stats. A 509 is fine when you take your GPA into account imo.

Only you can decide if you will be ready to apply after one gap year. Just remember, you shouldn’t apply until you have the very best application possible. An application that screams pick me for an interview and you won’t be sorry. Good luck.

I am a college senior, ORM from New Jersey, with a GPA of 3.9 and MCAT of 509 (even distribution). I have 200 clinical volunteer hours in an ER, 50 shadowing hours with an internist, and nonclinical hours (30 hrs food pantry and 70 hrs crisis hotline). I planned on taking 1 gap year as a scribe, but am wondering if I should take 2 years to increase my hours and possibly retake the MCAT. Do I have a decent chance of getting into a med school (MD) with my current stats or would it be best to take the second gap year?
