Hello Everyone, I just wanted to ask if you guys would recommend taking a science class that's not a prerequisite this Spring 2013? Would it help your application and interviews? I have a few interviews coming up and they might ask what have I been doing in this glide year. I'm currently working as a dental assistant part time. Thank you for your thoughts!

If your DAt and GPA is strong I don't think so. Although I heard from a friend that when he talked to an adcom, they told him continuation of education looks favorable.

As long as it is a manageable load that will not negatively impact your grades, go for it!

Don't spend money on unnecessary class unless you don't have enough upper level classes! Save money for dental school and interviews. I also work at a dental practice. I graduated in 2011 and will be going to dental school in 2013.I have never been asked about my gap years, they just asked me to describe what I do at work. Good luck!

What class were you thinking of taking? If it's something like anatomy-physiology or microbiology, I would say go for it. Those classes are really interesting and very relevant to dentistry. Who knows, maybe taking an extra science course now will give you a little more background for a future dental school class...

If money's not an issue go for the extra classes. But like someone mentioned previously, I graduated in 2010 and work at a dental office as an assistant and have never been asked about my gap year (s). I always expected that question, but it hasn't come up!

Why not get involved in research? Try to volunteer in a lab of some kind. That would give you a whole lot more to talk about then a class. And would be free!
