itd only be a one credit course but we'll have to meet for five hours a week... id really like to start band again since i took it for 10 years from 3rd-12th grade. u think this would look good on my transcript if i take it for 2 semesters, manual dexterity and all

Is that all you are concerned about, whether or not it'd look good on your transcript? Take a class because you want to, not because you want to impress the admissions committees. Most people need to realize that doing ANYTHING will look good, just as long as the applicant is DOING SOMETHING. This applies when choosing your major or choosing your classes. The adcoms are going to discriminate based on your degree or classes. Take classes that interest you and have fun in them. No sense in wasting away your undergrad years doing what you think everyone else wants you to do.

I say go ahead and start your band and have fun with it, regardless of whether or not you are applying to dental school. 🙂

lol of course thats all im concerned about... the only reason im here is because i need to be to get into dental school, where the real learning will begin. right now im not paying 25 grand a year for an education, im paying the money for the grades.

I feel sorry for you 🙁

i as well.

grades are very important. but you need to learn how to earn them and enjoy earning them otherwise dental school and life in general is going to be hell ... but to each to his own.

What do you play? I seriously doubt you would take band just 'cause it would demonstrate manual dexterity to d-schools. Although thats always a plus. Surely you dig playing in the band, right? I'm pretty sure all the instruments show some level of manual dexterity except maybe the trombone. Thats more like arm dexterity.

take band, make sure it counts as credit, it'll improve your overall GPA

i play the alto sax, parents made me take it in 3rd grade and ive been taking it ever since. i wanted to quit all through highschool because it was so boring and i wanted to take a free period instead, but now after a long time of not taking it i KIND of miss it, but not so much as to take 5 hours of class every day, but if itll be a relatively large positive on the application id suck it up and take it, thanx for ur 2 cents

Right on. I switched from alto to bari circa sixth grade and played all throughout high school. But it sounds like you stuck with it for all the wrong reasons, so I would really just have to echo what the big GavinC has said: Life is too short to be taking classes you're not into. Besides, you can get into D-school without them, although they might arguably make you look like a more "rounded" or "interesting" person on paper. But who cares about that. Let this be your wake up call to doing what you really want to do (As opposed to ADCOMS or your folks). I propose that instead of 5 hours of band everyday, you find something you could really get into (preferrably something constructive, probably barring tv, addictions, etc.) for the same amount of time. Welcome to the rest of your life!!!!
