Should I take DAT again?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you have very solid scores and i wouldn't risk taking it again. if you don't get in this cycle (knock on wood) i would take post-bacc classes to work on the gpa

Unless you are positive that you will improve your scores significantly with more studying, I wouldn't risk the effort and time to take the DAT again.

There could be a chance that your score will go down, considering that it's difficult enough to get a 22 on the DATs

GPA Overall/Sci ~ 2.9 🙁

What are my chances? Should I take DAT again to stand out? 😕

Is that why you have that username? 😉 Unless you have some hidden super low individual scores, I wouldn't retake it. Your scores should put you in mid 90 percentile. The advise on post bac sounds great. Good Luck!

I would suggest taking more classes right now to boost your GPA. If you get some interviews you can talk about the classes you are now taking and how they can help boost your GPA. If you don't get in this year, those extra classes that you will hopefully get A's in will bring up your GPA a little and will show that you can do well in your science courses. Your DAT is excellent so I wouldn't retake. A 22 is difficult to improve on.

Well, your DAT score looks solid and I don't see any reason you take it again. If you really want to be outstanding, work on GPA harder. If I were you, I would do that.

And I'm also considering retake it.

I got AA20 TS20 PAT21(I just took it) and crappier than yours.
Since my RC is 16🙁 , I think i should take it again.
GPA:3.8 sGPA:3.8

What you guys think? 😕

I don't think you need to take it again since you have a solid GPA.

Anyway, I applied last year with a GPA ~2.7, obviously, no interview from all those schools; using the same DAT scores.

Sadly, with three quarters ~ 3.8 and I could only pull up to ~2.94. What should I do? I applied to postbac at LLU, but only got on a waitinglist and nothing further. 🙁

I am doom, aren't I?

I wouldnt. I asked an the dean of admissions from UNC a similar question although I am only a junior and he said that 20+ is considered "high" and there is no point to retaking. He also said a low GPA+low DAT means you might want to do a bio masters or science masters, but with a low GPA and high DAT that isnt necessary. His advise might have been considering I am coming from Duke and that I would get the GPA up to a 3.2 or so by the end of junior year. I think the best thing to do is email someone from admissions, not rely on other students on this site to tell you.

a 28 in ochem is not average! did you try calling loma linda and seeing whats up? i think the rule of thumb is...if they have been reviewing your app for more than 2 weeks...and they don't tell you anything, then give them a friendly call 👍

It’s MUCH easier for you to increase your GPA than to increase your DAT scores. Do NOT ever think about retaking that DAT, right now you have a low GPA (but ur not doomed) AND you have a sweet @ss DAT scores. If you retake and if you get lower DAT score, you’re screwed for sure because of low GPA and low DAT.

Just spent the next 1 year or so taking more science classes, increase your GPA in the 3.0s or 3.1s and you'll REALLY stand out when you show them that "hey I screwed up in my first couple years but then I came to my senses and realized that I need to do better and my current GPA is 3.8+"

They usually like students that show potential for improvements

good luck
