Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. I'm registered for an mcat in 2 weeks, but i've been scoring 30's and upper 20's on my practice mcats. I'm considering canceling that test and just sign up to take it towards the end of summer.

The scoring pretty low on verbal (6 -8) and i'm scoring 7- 9's on physical and 10's on Biological sciences.

what do yall think? I'm already applying w/ a meh gpa (3.4) I'm just worried retaking the mcat would be frowned upon by admissions.

Does anyone have a link to anything that displays the average accepted MCAT and GPA to D.O. schools?

You contradicted yourself. You said you've been scoring high 20's and 30's. Then stated your averages for the individual sections adds up to an average between 23-27.

If your average is high 20's - 30, then take it.
If your average is 23-27, then probably shouldn't take it.

You want to have atleast 2 or 3 practice tests in a row at your goal range before you sit for real.

With two weeks left you have a few practice tests left to go so see how your next few line up with your previous few and go from there. Account for a couple point cushion that you may or not need due to nerves/new environment/etc on top of consistency

For reference-I scored exactly the same on the last two AAMCs and then scored that exact score on the real thing so take your practice scores as more than coincidence or luck

ok well average all you scores together. also average 9, 10, and 11 as people seem to think those are the most predictive. If you average is 26+ then I would take the test. It seems like a fair number of people get into DO with a 3.4 and a 26.

Another thread in MD recommended taking and voiding if you feel uneasy about it.

Is it too late for you to be refunded any of your money? If so, then I would say consider taking it if your last practice scores preceding the real thing are in your target range +1-2 as others have said and voiding it if you feel uneasy after. The only thing is, you might think you killed the test and really didn't, or vice versa. Depending on the rest of your application, a 3.4 and 26+ should net you some DO acceptances. Apply early and you should be fine. Some schools do look down at multiple MCAT tries, while some don't if you make a drastic improvement (not a point or two).

Thanks for the responses! I'll keep taking practice test and review a bit until a day or two before the test, if my scores don't come up by then i'll just cancel and sign up for a new test date.

Would you happen to know when early applications typically start for D.O. schools?

AACOMAS opens in May and you can submit July 1st I believe. If you submit your primary by mid-July you'll be fine for early, but I'd definitely shoot for as early as possible just so you can be a part of the first round of secondary invites. I'd also look through old school specific forums or secondary forums and pre write your secondaries (most are the same or similar). If you can, it'll save you so much stress and you can have really fast turn arounds.
