Hi everyone!

Im currently taking intro to sociology right now. I have a wonderful professor, but I really don't like the course. Like the subject matter covered is the bane of my existence right now.

If i drop socio before the add/drop deadline and only take a 14 credit course load as a second semester freshman, would this hurt my dental school application? Do I continually have to max out my credit load each semester?

Also, should I take intro to psych over the summer?

The only thing I would say to take into consideration is that some undergrads limit the number of drops you get. My undergrad implemented that when I was a junior and you were only allowed 3 withdraws as a freshman/sophomore and 2 as a junior/senior. Just don't go crazy withdrawing and you should be fine.

And no, you don't have to max out. Take whatever you are comfortable with, allows you graduate in 4 years (if you so desire), and keeps any scholarships you may have

Some dental schools require a sociology course now so I would suggest staying in the class. From my sociology experience, if you just regurgitate what the prof says, whether you believe it or not, you will do fine in the class. Suck it up for a couple more months 🙂.

I took 12 hour course loads just about every semester and had no problems landing acceptances.

It shouldn't hurt you if you are just a freshman. Do note that there are some dental schools that require sociology though, so if you drop it now you may want to retake it sometime if any of your schools of interest require it.

A reasonable course load dental schools prefer to see per semester is roughly 15 +/- 1. You should normally aim to have that.
