I am in a huge dilemma. The entire time I was in college I was working towards being a pharmacist without ever knowing how horrible the work conditions are. Now that I had experienced being in a pharmacy, there is no way I can work as a pharmacist. Now I am at a point where I don't know what to do anymore. So I figured I would give the DAT's a shot, considering I am fresh off of Orgo and I did well on the diagnostic test. Sometimes I just feel like dropping out of school and working as a UPS driver. I have a 3.6 science GPA, am 21 years old and if I do good on the DAT, I could make it into dental school.

Realizing how horrid the retail pharmacy environment is, I have lost all my passion towards attaining that goal. 🙁

What do you think? Should I try the DAT this August?

I think what you asking is 'Should you be a Dentist?' I believe taking DAT is tiny winny step towards your future life. If I were you I would talk to few dentists, try to analyze there prospective, look at their life styles, work environment etc. Finally, I would ask myself a question "does it all meant for me?".

You already know the difference between wanting to be a pharmacist and becoming pharmacist and finally actually working in pharmacy environment are all so different things. You actually have to try it out the environment, after all it is all about your future life.

I could tell you lot about dentistry but I think it's out of scope here. If you already haven't made your decision and If you would like to know my prospective towards the industry, please PM me after a month or so.

Sorry I couldn't be much help at this moment. I could tell you one thing though. Dentists generally do have higher rate of suicide. Not sure how much truth in it but I'm sorry this is not something you wanted to hear first 🙂

Decide whether you want to try the dental route first, then if you do want to try it out, then sure take the DAT in August. Still plenty of time to get ready for it, maybe 2 weeks or so left of thinking, then start studying

Sadly, dentistry is going the same way. Medicare disbursements are a joke, corporate dentistry is on the rise, and with TONS of people thinking dentists make so much money and its so perfect, dental school costs are rising. Big cities are getting crowded with too many dentists, and because of this, corporations are gonna be able to take advantage of new dentists with HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars in debt.

If you want to be a knowledgable doctor that happens to specialize in surgery of teeth, well, then you want to be a dentist.

Go back to pharmacy if you were originally interested in drugs, organic chemistry, pathways, etc. You can be successful as a pharmacist, I know plenty who make tons of money and live happy lives.
