I am currently an undergrad junior and I would like to apply to premed postbacs next year. I have a 3.8 GPA and 1390 (600M, 790V) on the SAT.

My math SAT score is a bit weak, so I was wondering if taking the GRE and doing better would be beneficial for admission to the more competitive postbac programs (Bryn Mawr, Goucher)?

Man, tough call. Your GPA is solid and 1390 is pretty good, but I see your point about the math. SAT-type quick-thinking math does figure pretty heavily into the MCAT, so it might be a red flag.

If you have good ECs and LORs, I doubt it would be enough to keep you out, assuming you interview well, but if you're nervous and feel confident about your test-taking abilities, why not take the GRE? If you don't do well, you can always send your SAT instead.

I would recommend taking the GREs, yes. Although your SATs are good, and may be enough, a good GRE score will only help you. Then again, only take the GRE if you feel that you can perform well on it.

Is there a particular reason you are looking to do a post-bacc as opposed to delaying graduation for an extra year at your university? Just letting you know it might be a better option for you, especially since you may be able to use your senior year to start tackling some of the pre-reqs and you won't need to worry about standardized test scores.

Yes--it would take me six years to graduate from undergrad if I did that and I am kind of ready to move on. I plan on taking some of the non-science requirements (English, calculus) next year.

I am pretty confident about my test-taking abilities, so I think I will take the GREs.
