I've just started my first day doing every section of the Destroyer. While most of the problems are doable, I certainly wouldn't have achieved the same results under actual time pressure (I gave myself about an hour instead of 30 minutes to do 30 gen chem portion, for example). I know I should aim to do them as fast as I can, but would it be wiser to use extra time to come up with more educated answers (esp for ochem), or should I simulate actual testing conditions for each set of problems? The obvious answer would be to simulate testing conditions if this were of the same difficulty as the real DAT, but it's not. Thanks. 🙂

Timing on destroyer will not help. Memorizing all the concepts is what you need from it. Concerning timing, It would be too difficult and the questions are nothing like the real DAT.

Timing on DATQVAULT and BOOTCAMP- yes.

The DAT Destroyer is not intended to be used for timed testing. The Destroyer is a book to be used for learning, take all the time you need. The DAT Destroyer is NOT overkill, there are many different versions of the DAT and this will prepare you for whatever comes your way. Much better to be over prepared than under prepared. If you get a question wrong while going through the Destroyer you have identified a weakness and can rectify it. Test day is not the time to find out you don't know how to solve a problem. The Destroyer is very challenging indeed but so is the DAT. Make sure you know the Destroyer cold before taking the test. You should know all the correct choices along with the incorrect choices. The ADA offers a full length test if you want to simulate a the test environment. http://www.ada.org/en/education-careers/dental-admission-test/

Good luck in your studies and on the DAT!
