I am currently taking the Biology I and II, and so far I love everything we're covering in Bio I, but Bio II is kind of scaring me a little bit right now. The pace the teacher is going is a little fast considering it's only the first week of school. I have no problems with the lecture in this class but the lab so far looks very hard. We looked at different cells yesterday and talked about several different bacterias, viruses, and so on.......I am a little bit lost in this class and Im starting to panick right now because I dont want anything below an A. Almost everyone in my class had already gone through Biology I and Microbiology so the materials been presented thus far are nothing new to them, but they are to me.......Am i panicking too early in the semester? Should i wait til im finished with the first Bio and start this one. Is it a good idea to take both at the same time?

Is Bio I required BEFORE Bio II? If not, then the material should be designed for someone who's never taken bio before. Others who have taken it will have an advantage, but it isn't like you can't catch up. Personally, I don't know why you'd take both Bios at once. Can you drop Bio II without a W? If not, then stick it out and work your butt off. If so, then withdraw and add another class if it isn't past the deadline.

The other option is to drop the Bio II lab and take the lab later, if the lab and class are offered separately.

No, the materials being covered in Bio I is not related to the materials being covered in II, so I can take both at the same time. At my school, as long as you're enrolled in Bio I, you can take Bio II. Since it's only the first week of school, I still have 2 more weeks to drop the class without a W on the record. The reason I'm taking both at the same time is because I want to finish all my prereqs and apply next fall..........what do you think i should do?

Only you know what you can handle. I think it's doable, but you're going to have to commit to it. You're going to have to study hard and if you don't get something, do the research until you get it. If you have the time and the commitment, then I say stick with it. If you're afraid you may not have the motivation to get an A in both, then you might want to drop it and take it later. If you drop it, how many credits will you have?

It still does not matter............if the 2nd Bio class is not a continuation of the 1st class, the information you learn will STILL be vital to you, to ready you for other Bio classes. I think it is foolish to take them all in the same semester. Unless you need to take them together to graduate or whatever, I would drop the 2nd and stick with the first.

When are you planning to take the MCAT? Are you planning to prep for it with a class or with self study? I am not convinced that your current course of action will leave you in the best position for admittance to med school, i.e. you are risking a bad grade in Bio II (which you should get an A or A- in) and you are also leaving yourself with little time and space to do MCAT prep since you may be overwhelmed this semester.

I would suggest that you take Bio I and drop Bio II. Take Bio II over the summer or in the fall semester. Than, once you are done with the intro bio classes, take an upper level bio class (like micro or physiology, or both!) and consider your MCAT prep an extra course in the spring.

If you applied in the fall you would also have to be sending out your AMCAS general application in June, which would be competing for your time with your MCAT prep.

Take it easy, do it right and do it well.

the bio class is 5 units, so if i drop the class i only have 17 units.......what do you think? too much with it or too little without it......?

that's what i'm debating over right now.......i'm not really sure i'm going the right direction or not.....i came from an engineering and math background, and now over to biology, it's a big shift in terms of preparing and processing the materials.........now that you mentioned it, i think it's too much for me once the applications process start to roll and the preparations for the mcat kick in........thank you very much for your help...........
