... take the following in the Fall?

Calculus 3
Physics w/calc
Organic Chemistry

I have mixed feelings about this, the ambitious side of me says I can do it, the pessimistic side says... NOOOOOOO!

Anyone have experience with a similar course load?

Granted, this is not a lot of courses, but the degree of difficulty is what is worrisome. I work full-time and volunteer when I can among other EC's, so time may be an issue unless I dump my job.

Hi,
If I were you I will only take 2 classes max since you have to add in the fact that you are working full time.

You want to make sure that you put enough time into studying and a lil extra time for some unexpected occurences as well.

I work full time night shift and I am planning on only taking 1 class per semester.

No, don't do it. All three of these are homework intensive courses - none of them are "go to class and remember enough to take a test"

I would stray away from anything that is not necessary for getting into medical school that might be hard. That means your differential calculus class.

If you are working full time AND volunteering I think that course load is over ambitious. I agree with the OP who suggested that you take only two courses.

Stray away from difficult courses? Where is the fun in that? Plus, as an engineering major, it is a little hard to avoid them. I like being challenged, but not overwhelmed.

I also agree, that some of these courses are becoming difficult to the point that I cannot just learn the material and class and put little effort outside of class. Calc II was probably my first encounter with that.

I will replace one of the classes with an easier course, thanks for the advice.

My differential calculus course I am taking now, as calculus 2 has differential equations among other things. Differential equations I am taking during the 8-week summer semester--that will be fun.

 Sorry, got differential calculus mixed up in my head for multi-variable. Don't take multi-variable because its a class your going to spend a lot of time on to master.

I plan on taking Physics, O-Chem and maybe a couple other "easy" courses during Fall next year...but I'm planning to fall back on my job and only work part-time. I shudder to think of adding advanced Calc to that load.

You do have to be a certain kind of crazy to want to get into medical school - I don't think you have to be THAT crazy though.

Mirror mirror on the wall...

Wow, you are me, a year ago. I took exactly that load (except with extra numbers 😛 )

Physics w/ calc II
Organic II
Calculus III

I also worked full time, volunteered 2 days a week, and studied (not well) for my MCAT.

My advice is not to do it. DON'T DO IT! :scared:

If my husband hadn't been forcing me to eat and sleep, I likely would have just fallen over dead at some time during the semester. I ended up with 2 As and a B (no +- system at the school I took it at), so grades were not horrible, but my life sure was. NO free time. NO down time. Also, nearly a year after I finished this gauntlet of evil I still feel like I'm not being productive enough. I ran on 150% for 2 semesters (I did organic I, Physics w/calc I, and Calc II fall '09 while working, etc). Once I was back to being off work at 3pm and having nothing to do until work the next morning, I just didn't know what to do with myself. If I went to the movies to kill time, I felt like I should be integrating something, learning a mechanism, or deciphering a NMR.

Just starting to get back to normal, and now I start med school in August. Joke's on me 😛

Anyway, I would warn against it unless you are super man/girl

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking a long the same lines, but needed someone else to say it wasn't a brilliant idea.

I decided to choose a "diversity" class, probably Womens Psychology (haha) in physics place. I can run for chem club president knowing I will have the time available to successfully hold the position.
