greetings to everyone!
i was hoping i could get your opinion on whether or not i should apply for this cycle (for 2007 matriculation).
i graduated this past june with major in bio, minor in literature. i have a 3.2 undergrad gpa (i had personal/health issues first year, was too intimidated/overwhelmed to ask for help. i also went to a top north american schools, although i'm realizing for most schools this doesn't matter much, boo). my bio gpa is 3.55. i have 900 hours (and counting) in small animal clinic as vet tech, 520 hours experience in animal shelter (giving meds, assessing health), 500 hours wildlife rehab experience, currently volunteering at farm (just started this week, am planning on doing 10 hours/week). also have interview next week for starting research internship at local zoo, my focus is on health monitoring in exotics, hopefully west nile or another human disease (i'm very interested in public health).
also had 3 jobs in research labs; one in neuroscience with rats, another with reptiles, another in ecology. the bummer is i didn't work directly with the animals, but helped process tissues, analyze samples, saw firsthand how animals were used in research.
i am retaking org 1 in the fall; this is mostly because i need to take org 2 in the winter and want to ace org 1 this time around (got B the first time).
i'm excited about continuing to work at the hospital, volunteering at the farm, doing the research internship, kicking ass in org ( i will do anything i need to). i will feel good about applying NEXT fall; however, should i try and apply for this cycle? it stinks that applications are due so soon (Oct 2). i know some schools like tufts allow you to send supplimentary info after the vmcas application is in.
do schools look down on you for applying twice? or do they look down on you more for taking a year off?
thanks for the advice!
