Hi all,

Since you all have been so supportive through this journey...I'm going to add some more freak-out-session drama haha...

I just submitted my primary, and although I know it will be awhile before the secondaries come in, and the gpas get verified, etc....I'm still freaking out. Do you ever wonder if all the years of your work will be worth anything?

Timeline:
2000 entered USC (Cali) with a full academic scholarship and a RHP honors student. (I skipped last year of high school, they doubled my freshman college credits so that I could graduate high school in 2001) Majored in Cello Performance, did the professional concert cellist thing. Was in the Thematic Option honors program.

Craptacular grades. 2.8 overall, 2.8 bcpm (tried to take pre med while pursuing music carerr) Took the MCAT twice for Q@#$ and Q$%@#$^ which wasn't a good idea. 22S and 24R respectively. I just was doing too much with the music at the same time but didn't learn my lesson quickly enough...

2004 decided to really get my act together. Started working full time in a research lab, electro-optic and cellular physiology at UCLA. Took classes at night at UCLA.

2007 I have 2.5 years of a 4.0 gpa from pure science courses, and worked full time throughout. I have an awesome job now where I work for a cardiothoracic surgeon at UCLA, published 5 abstracts, presented 2 posters, contributed to a surgery textbook, etc.

Took the MCAT 2007 and got a 33S!!

...and I think though overall my gpa is going to be painfully sub par...3.3 overall probably with a 3.4 bcpm. *gulp*...

please god don't let the massive amount of money I'm going to spend on applications be all for nothing...

I can use all the advice I can get...😱

My advice? Wait for secondaries, send them in, pay your credit card bills, go on interviews, do your best.

When I lived in California, lottery tickets paid off at $.43 on the dollar. Which means that for every dollar you spent on a lottery ticket, you won 43 cents on average. My stats professor said it would be much more efficient if people would just send the state 57 cents for every lottery ticket they want to buy.

Coincidentally, 57% of med school applicants were rejected last year. Hmmm.

So the question is, do you feel lucky? Do you want to send the state 57 cents, or pay the dollar for a real chance at the winnings?

I'll take the chance. And I applied to 33 schools so I don't want to hear about how much you're spending - I'm spending more.

Best of luck to you.

thanks!

yep, 44 schools here. maybe its overkill...

i dont think you'll have any problem getting a spot in an allopathic school this cycle..

great MCAT and fantastic ECs.. Wow!

good luck !

thanks,

i think my credit card is sobbing somewhere in the corner of my apt...
