I just received an invite. It's $85 one time to join. I just don't know much about it, and the interwebz are turning up mixed reviews. Is this society worth joining for vet school apps, resumes, scholarships etc?

If there is something that you would do with the membership - like find a way to participate by volunteering or whatnot, or if you want to apply for scholarships through it... then yeah, maybe. If you *just* want the title to put on application, it won't mean all that much IMO. If the requirement to get asked to join is being a good student... well, they can already see your grades and honor roll, whatever, so they don't need some additional title to confirm that.

I definitely want to become involved if it's a good group. I just can't really tell because there isn't a ton of information on it. I need all the scholarship opportunities that I can get, that's for sure! But good point about the grades/honor role thing...I overlooked that.

A lot of those are a huge waste of money and total scams. If you want the Greek life experience, with a little bit of professionalism, try a professional frat. I was in DEM in undergrad and it definitely gave me a boost. Not so much by being on my resume (but it doesn't hurt), but it gave me exposure and experiences I wouldn't have otherwise had.

I'm a member of Sigma Alpha Pi and and there is a program included in the initiation process where you can become a certified leader. Saying you're a leader with a legit certificate I'd say definitely isn't a bad thing for vet school. But for sure do other things besides just Sigma Alpha Pi if you decide to join!

Short answer, no.

It's not a long-established, historic honor society that will be immediately recognized by most admission committees as an honor to have been accepted, such as Phi Beta Kappa or those societies for specific majors, like Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society (which also seems kind of weird they just took the same letters and rearranged them, but whatever).

It's listed as a For Profit. That seems like a huge red flag to me.
