Many of you tried to sign up for the January MCAT Exam yesterday, November 11, 2014, and were disappointed to find that not enough seats were added and you did not in fact get a seat. Now you will either have to take the new MCAT exam, which is longer and testing entirely new subjects…or change your career aspirations altogether…which of course, if you were passionate enough to start this path, the latter is not an option.
This is simply unfair. Forcing students to take the new MCAT when they have spent a significant amount of time preparing for the current exam is an unfair and a gross abuse of power.

I have started a petition to get our voices heard.

Sign the petition below on CHANGE.ORG

Call AAMC.

Tweet/Facebook/Instagram. Use social media to make our voices heard.

They will never be able to add enough seats to accommodate everyone. Might as well start preparing for the new MCAT. The material you have studied so far is still tested over.

AAMC is a business. Lucky for them that they are the bridge between undergrad and medical school but they won't add more seats for many reasons.

1. They want people to take the new MCAT so they can accurately score it (or at least with enough values to have an accurate-ish curve)

2. They're in the business of making money and the new test gives them $25 more per test.

3. Even if they added more spots or testing dates there will still be thousands of unhappy people.

I understand the frustration of not being able to take the test when you want to but they aren't going to change things just because a couple thousand students are unhappy whereas the tens and thousands of students are happy.

The petition should be to not change the test ! If it spreads to all college campuses it would have a chance. I legit feel bad for those that have to take the new one. Premeds should know how bad the new test will be .

Isn't AAMC funded by tax payer money to a degree and is it not regulated by the government?

it sucks yeah, but wth it is NOT an injustice. This is from the petitition: "[this is]denying students a right to their education." ARE YOU FOR REAL? do you know what an actual denial of education is? gain some perspective, people.

They can do whatever they want, and really should be updating the test periodically, but I don't understand why they'd change it at such an inconvenient time in the application cycle.

I realize that the change sucks and no matter at what time the AAMC makes the change some people will be inconvenienced, however, the change should not come as a shock to anyone. The AAMC started their MR5 advisory committee back in 2008 and made formal change recommendations in 2011. After looking at the link for this petition I scrolled through some of the comments and saw a lot of angry comments on how the AAMC was ruining everyone's life and what shocked me most is it seemed like a number of people who had commented gave the impression in their comments like the change in the test came as a complete shock to them. My point is this, please don't get all uptight and make is sound like you had no idea the MCAT was changing when the AAMC has been telling us about the change for years. That being said I realize that some people have a right to complain, for some people the first time they took the MCAT their score was not what they wanted it to be and are hoping to retake before the new exam hits so they don't have to spend more money they don't have etc.

Exactly. This shouldn't be new news for anyone. It was announced years ago. I'm guessing a lot of people were hoping that the AAMC would release more test dates as the months progressed, though unfortunately this was not the case. You can't blame the AAMC for not planning ahead.

Edit: Adding to the fact that registration was open since February 2014.
