I apologize if this question is irrelevant to the forum, if it is ill remove it, I just do not know where else to go.
I want to become a veterinarian, even though I'm hardly 17 yet. I always had a hobby of art and I really enjoy art and I always wanted to have art as a career but it seemed to be impossible. I was wondering, if I became a vet, would I still have time for art and other hobbies like that on a regular basis or would all of my time be dedicated to being a vet and I would only have a little time off?
Thank you for your time!

You can have whatever hobbies you want, you just have to make dedicated time for them

It is just about making time. Hobbies help you relax and unwind after stressful days.

My friend still paints and draws. She does animal portraits 🙂

I knew a woman who got her DVM and then got a masters in art history and now is studying the history of animal behavior and human-animal interactions in art. Cool, right?

Thank you all for your advice!!
And Wolfpackprevet, that is really really cool!!
I also have one other question...
Would becoming a vet tech seem better for me? I really really love being hands on with the animals, and I love medical stuff, so thats why I definatly want to do something veterinary, not like dog grooming or something. I currently work at a vet office just cleaning, and I notice that the vets mostly just sit on the phone and write stuff down and talk to clients, and that doesn't appeal to me as much as what the techs do. They are all running around and although they are super busy they have animals to take care of and seem much happier than the vets...

That might be a really really good observation for you, and I would explore that thought before embarking on vet school if I were you. You should become a vet if you really like to memorize a ton of stuff, analyze lab results, work on medical records, communicate with clients/other doctors, calculate and look up drug information, and oversee that your patients are getting taken care of... You'll probably be much happier being a tech if you'd rather be the one taking care of the patient primarily. Though communicating clients will also be a big part of your job too.

Thank you so much! I think I will look into being a vet tech and try to choose which path is right for me 🙂 Thank you so much

My first degree is in Studio Arts and I thought for a while that I would have a career in Biological Illustration or fine art. Ultimately, I realized that I just didn't have the drive to become a professional artist and make a career out of it. While I wouldn't consider myself an artist (this is debatable though), I still find time to draw and I actual enjoy making art again... something I wasn't doing when I was trying to develop my portfolio and find a job. Regardless of what you do, I believe it's important to have a hobby because you need balance in your life or at least I believe this to be true.
Ah, true, thank you so much ^-^ I really appreciate your advice
