Been with the forums for a while, finally got around to registering, so you'll definitely be seeing more of me around.

These are pretty silly questions, but I'd love an opinion.

1) I am currently entering my junior year in undergrad, and planning on finishing all of my requirements one year after undergrad is over, completing my last three requirements (Biochem, Physics x2) at a post-bac, hopefully at Harvard's Health Careers Program. This would mean I will be starting my application at the end of my senior year rather than at the end of my junior year. Would this have a negative impact on my chances at admission? And is there a place in the application that would allow me to say that I'm obviously not done with my education even though I'm graduating?

2) Next semester I will be taking Orgo 2, Human Osteology, Advanced Abnormal Psych (psych b.s. major), and a fourth class. I need a seminar and writing component as part of my school's graduation requirements, and I've narrowed it down to: Intro to Philosophy (PHIL 104S), and "Intro to Literature: Game on! Gaming Reality" (LIT 80S). I'm leaning towards the former because I feel like it sounds more, well, legit than the latter, but would the latter being an English Literature class be more appropriate for dental schools considering that they are looking for English classes despite the silly name?

Gracias!🙂

1) This will not negatively impact you negatively as long as you already have a decently strong science GPA. Lots of people (myself included) complete their pre-reqs after applying. However, unless you have a specific reason to outside of dental admissions, I wouldn't go out of my way to attend the post-bacc classes at Harvard. Just go to an accredited 4 year university that is convenient and offers the classes you want. Duke is already a good name behind your degree.

2) I don't believe either course will help your application. However, some schools require 2 semesters of english including a writing intensive course. I would make sure you have 2 semesters of english done (though I suspect you do being that you are coming from Duke). The best thing you could do is call a couple of the schools you are most interested in and ask their input.

Thank you!

I'm gonna guess the LIT course will satisfy the English prereqs, but yes, I have taken a Writing course and an English course already, which I'm thinking would already have satisfied these reqs.

As for the Harvard comment, I am honestly just looking for a **cheap** place to do take Biochem and the Physics courses, plus other appropriate suggested courses. I reside in South Florida so I'm hoping that Barry University's Master's/Post Bacc program would be appropriate, seeing as that would be my other relatively cheap option of which I'm aware.

1) No.... Matter of fact, if you do put that info down, there is a chance no one will see it. I am starting to believe when they pick up a new application, all they ever look at it is GPA & DAT, if they like what they see, then they read further (but not too deep, they have 2000+ more to go through)

2) I have no idea what your talkin about

I take whatever classes I want, especially if I find them interesting. I loved Philosophy and I loved my Technical/Scientific Writing course. However, if I were to choose between the two, I'd pick the Game class. Sounds awesome!!!! It may also give you a little more personality on your transcript and eventually bring forth a more "fun" question from adcoms at an interview. 👍

Take the gaming one

I vote for gaming!! As a journalism major, I have taken the most fun classes - videography, photography, news editing, reporting, etc - and that's what you stand out and look "different". It's am eye popper, and you'll have something diff to talk about at your interview 🙂 good luck, may the games be with you ;D

Decided to just keep both courses and try them out at the beginning of the semester, dropping the less interesting one. I think my "fun," "interesting" thing would be my focus on social justice in both my courses as well as my ECs, so hopefully that will be a topic of discussion during my interview rather than my thoughts on gaming reality haha. 🙂

Thank you all!
