Does anyone have one?

I've been sitting here and staring at my left hand for the better part of an hour and I can't decide if I have one or not (right hand is normal). I'm Asian, so I've heard that 13% of Asians have the crease on one hand.. but help me out guys..

There are three definite major lines on my hand. The top one looks like it's continuous until I slightly flex my hand then it becomes three distinct creases with a faint "communicating branch" between the top two lines.

Hi,

I have one on my left hand but not on my right...and I'm not Asian--so I can't help there. It just looks like a straight line across my palm whether my hand flexed or flat.

When you have your palm stretched out, do you have two lines or three?

QUICK QUICK - what nerve injury is this!!!!

oh how nerdy we have become - P.S. if you still talk to this college friend, have them get that checked out. its not normal

i've always wondered what these things were called. i have it on both hands -- i think asian people are supposed to think that its good luck or something. and yes, i'm asian.

i have simian creases on both my right and left hands.. in thai culture, it's supposed to mean that i have a hot temper.. when people see my hands, they often say that i should be careful not to hit anyone, because i could potentially do some damage.. i have yet to hurt a fly 😛

(recurrent branch of the median nerve.... right?)

I believe that is correct. Opponens pollicis if I do say.

First off, let me apologize for posting here in Allo, I'm applying this cycle.

But I wanted to say I have a simian crease on my right palm and I never knew there was any significance to it, never knew there was a name for it. I have thought it was pretty weird, no one else in my immediate family has it. I will have to check my daughter when I get home tonight. My first pregnancy was ended b/c the baby had Down Syndrome and heart/lung/kidney abnormalities. We (the husband and I) were tested and the Genetic Counselor found that we were normal (at least at the genetic level!) We were pretty scared to try again, but our daughter is beautifully normal. But we have talked about stopping with just her and not pushing our luck so to speak.

Anyway, I'll go back to lurking, just thought this was an interesting discussion.

If your genes don't predispose you to having children with Downs, there is not an increased risk of having a baby with Downs in future go-rounds. Your risk is the same risk of the general population.
