Which one is correct?

A. 1-isopropyl 3-methylcyclohexane

or

B. 1-methyl 3-isopropylcyclohexane

I thought you don't take the prefix into account when it comes to alphabetical priority. But, Chad says it should be A since i in isopropyl comes earlier that m in methyl...

What is correct?

Chad is correct. In things like isopropyl, neobuyul, isobutyl, etc. the first letter counts.

Thanks for ur reply.

Then, what about prefixes like, di-, tri-...?

When it's like that, only the thing after the prefix matters. the "iso" in isopropyl isn't the prefix when it comes to IUPAC naming. It describes the type of group, not the number of groups.

yah if you watch that section of chad's vid again i think he explains it

gotta be careful tho ur di's and tri's dont count.. as well as tert- and sec-

one thing thats really annoying tho is that when u have a complex substituent no matter what the beginning of the word is you use that letter! even di or tri! (complex sub's go in brackets as well )
