Since the AMCAS doesn't open until May, how can I prewrite Personal Statement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's just a personal statement with a 5300 character limit. Pre-write on your Microsoft Word!

How many essays are there and what are the prompts? thanks

edit: i meant to say Until
There's only one prompt that you need to respond to for the AMCAS. Essentially, why do you want to become a doctor? The answer is considered your personal statement. There are character limitations but you can look that up using this year's AMCAS manual.

Most schools have their own specific essay or short answer questions on their secondary apps, which you can look up on the allopathic-school specific threads.

Not sure if you are serious, but there is only one personal statement, and there is no essay prompt. If you are trying to pre-empt the secondaries, then look at the school-specific discussions. Bear in mind that your writing may be for naught: many medical schools altered their prompts this year, and I think the new MCAT may make them do so again.

That may be true, but many schools also did not alter their prompts. It doesn't hurt to pre-write, especially if you have time. Worst case scenario, you'll have to write another one, but at least you'll have some material to copy/paste from. For me, I was so burnt out on quickly writing secondary responses that the quality suffered, which I think compromised my chances at a few schools.

Also, the new MCAT will not be instated until 2015, so this upcoming cycle should be fine.

I applied to 24 schools and only one changed their prompts at all from the previous year (they dropped one essay). I don't see why the new MCAT would cause schools to suddenly change their prompts at a higher rate.

+1

Also, the reflection required to write good secondary essays helped me come up with good stuff to talk about at interviews.

Thanks alot for your great and supportive help, everyone. Always so grateful to have the resources of SDN.
