What do you think are some important criteria for admissions (besides DAT & GPA) for SIU. It is my state school and I was looking for opinions. Thanks

Whatever you do, don't grow up in the Chicagoland area. 😉

But do get to know Dr. Thomas. He has a lot of sway and is the acting Director of Admissions, and is also the Director of Minority Recruitment. If you are not a minority, then being on his good side can't hurt. He's pretty cool though, he'll tell it like it is.

Good luck!

Tell them you're from S. Illinois and you want to practice there, seriously.

Hmm....I think a little fibbing might come back and bite you in the butt. At my interview I told them I had no intention of working in southern Illinois and I hopefully would establish my practice in Chicago. I got accepted in early Febuary. If you say you want to practice in southern Il, they may ask where and why. Keep in mind, some of the professors are from Southern Il, and can tell if you are lying.

Yah, but if you are from S. Illinois, it doesn't hurt.
