SIU-MEDPREP 2014 Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
oh cool, thanks! so y'all have already been assigned to an advisor?? Ehh.. Mr. Stevens needs to get on the ball with us cycle 2 folks (interviewed Mar 3rd). All we got was a random phone call on the weekend . Have all of you guys confirmed? I'm still deciding if I am going to accept it though, I have been concerned with how up kept the program is.... I always find typos in everyone of Mr. Stevens messages.
I do plan on accepting admission to the program. Also, I have a friend who is the program now and he tells me that it is really excellent, and my premed advisor had nothing but good things to say about the program. So I think its a great program and Mr. Stevens just might not be familiar with the spelling and grammar check lol

Yep! I'm already registered for summer classes. Every program has their pros and cons. My advisor Dr. Metz is legit. I communicate a lot with her and she has been very helpful and knowledgeable about the med school process. I am definitely confident in this program. But at the end of the day, you still have to put in the work, regardless how reputable the program is. You should get the next steps of what to do in the mail and who your advisor is. Your advisor should be contacting you soon as well.

I got my phone call from Mr. S on Sunday re: my acceptance 🙂 I'd join the group, but I gave up FB for Lent :/ lol Guess I'll wait for the new Google Group invite...congrats to each of you, though, and I look forward to meeting those that I didn't already meet on 2/28 @ admissions day 🙂

oh cool, so is it just cycle 2 folks that haven't received anything yet? And what classes did you register for ^^? Man, I wish we can get our stuff already. Wow, and that's great that you got Dr. Metz, she was one of my favorites. I hope I get a good advisor. And yea, I'm not even on Facebook so thanks for responding to my messages, hopefully I'm not missing too much on there.

Not a problem! Yeah the cycle one applicants should have all the info they need already. We found out we got in, in December and I accepted early so I could get the process going. Check your email. Mr. Stevens just sent more info. All info of what you need to do and what classes to take will be on the acceptance website link that is in the acceptance attachment.

You are not missing too much on fb. Just everyone introducing themselves and telling where they are from, their housing plans and most of the questions asked on here.

I applied to SIU and my major is Pre-Med. I did not apply to the MedPrep program, though that was where I was placed.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Brooke

this looks like a really good program. just a few questions:

are they eligible for fafsa post bacc loans?

what is this program about? in other words, they say it is for those who have taken most of the pre-reqs, but what if i need to retake some of those classes can i do them here?

how does the Masters degree program work?

any linkage?

Thanks!

I am also very interested in this program, but I have not taken the MCAT yet, and I also have not taken one year of Organic Chemistry. The program's website says that some prerequisites can be fit into the program of study, so I am not particularly worried about the Organic Chem part.

Does one have to take the MCAT before applying?

For someone who has a few prereqs to take, is it better to wait it out until next year, or just apply in cycle 2 (since cycle 1's deadline is Wednesday)?

Hey everyone,
I am currently a first year student in MEDPREP and I would be happy to answer all of the questions that I can or direct you to a person that can answer them. Good luck!
