from what i understand of medical school is that the last year is where you do specialty residencies but what if i just want to be a family physician or PCP? is there a way to skip the last year of medical school?

To add even if you don't want to go into those fields it gives you good experience on what they do and the types of conditions that you should look out for so that you can refer them to said specialists. It may seem like a waste of time, but really it's not

Are you talking about medical school in the US? Residency starts after you finish 4 years of medical school. Family medicine is a 3-year residency. PCPs are usually family medicine or internal medicine (also a 3-year residency) physicians.

There are a handful of medical schools that offer 3-year MD programs, but they are the exceptions rather than the rule. I believe NYU has a school that offers a 3-year degree for people interested in primary care.

That's NYU-Long Islan
Offhand, Duke and UC-Davis are the only other 3-year programs that come to mind. But I'm sure there are a few more out there.

Agree with the thoughts that even if you don't want to do say, a surgery, Psych or EM rotation, you'll have patients who have had to go through those venues themselves, and you need to be up on what they're taking and what's affecting them

Hackensack Meridian offers a 3 year program for all of their internal residencies. If you decide you want to match elsewhere, then you can do the 4th year and enter the regular match.
