ive been studying it 1 day but its all a MESS...

:|

anyone with tips on how to learn to skull as fast as possible?
i started with topography but i dont think its the smartest way...

:scared:

If you have your own skull, grab a netter look for all the foramens and holes on the skull and follow along the atlas. If you have a rohen, follow along with it also.

www.amsa.org/winkingskull

This is available for amsa members. Its only available til December 31st, so open it and keep the window open so that you can continually access it. Honestly the best way to learn is to have a real skull in front of you and have a netter to follow along with.

ok this is what I did, and I knew the skull pretty well
Go to Michigan's website and watch the video they have on the skull dissection. The first few minutes is just the skull and foramina, then they go into brain (which we dont dissect our 1st semester) but at the end they go over the dura and sinuses. Then, use a fake skull (or real) at your side to study for a few days. When you are reading your notes and what does in and out of each hole, pick up the skull and point to it. This helps because you are drilling into your head not only what each hole/foramina is, but what travels in each. If you have exams like we do (only practicals) this will make your life easier. Don't be intimidated by the skull. We were scared by upperclassmen and TA's, but in all honestly I really liked the head/neck block. I found it easier than the first block (which was all the muscles, insertions, etc).

😡I don't think i can access to theese sites, im not an american student...

but thanx for your tips, i gueess i can find something on other sites.. ?
my problem is that i dont have a skull here, and my exam is right after christmas...

im using sobotta and graysanatomy (text book)

do you know about any quizzes or something?
need a little "fun" learning

Definitely get a skull and Netter. It seems way harder than it is until you put those two together. Then you can have the whole thing down in honestly half an hour. You'll be surprised. I sure was.

haha really...hihi dont think ill manage it all in 1/2 hour, but now ill give it a try.... 😉

you mean the netter cd or atlas??
i like sobotta atlas much better.... especially for the skull, its more detailed... :scared:

break up head anatomy into naso/oropharynx, retropharynx, orbit, petrous temporal bone, pterygopalatine fossa, and middle cranial fossa. Make a list of every foramen and then list what space it connects to what other space, and draw a diagram of it.

I think anyone can access the michigan site, just google Michigan gross anatomy.....then click on dissection videos

The fastest/best way to learn is to get a real skull/fake one if you dont have access to one and follow along. I learned more with a real skull in a shorter period of time with an atlas than I did with any other technique

Atlas.

I tell you the way i did the skull:
First open netter the very first thing you will get is the fossae anterior, middle and posterior cranial fossae....do their boundaries and foramina and structures passing through them.
second start doing the bones individually...frontal,occipital,parietal,temporal,sphenoid,zygomatic,maxilla,mandible and other small bones that are advised by your teacher.
For doing this the best way is to access a skull and individual bones that must be available at your school, netter or some other good atlas, and a book explaning the bone whatever you are using ranging from Grays to a concise book and if you require any study companion if you can learn good at combined studies.
The point is to go step by step and the tip is don't try to do whole of skull in one day.

This is good , but missing some important points .You failed to answer the following questions:

Best time to study the skull?
Best position to study the skull i.e. lying down, sitting up, etc
Best food to eat before and after studying the skull in order to achieve maximum retention.

You also failed to comprehensively guide the op on the rate at which he/she should study the skull. Your advice to go "step-by-step" is vague and not helpful.

In conclusion, there are no shortcuts and anybody claiming to know the secrets to studying the skull is just being deceitful.

hahahaha........

i started studying at 9 , ate chicken salat with nuts, drank 3 liters of green tea, studied both lying and standing and now its all going much better 🙂

borrowing a skull tomorrow, and now i see a light in the end of the tunnel...
finally - I think its going to be fine 😀

thanks everybody for your advises ... !!

You are most welcome. By the way,I love your attitude.👍🙂

3 liters of green tea? Man that's going to be a lot of bathroom breaks. 🙂

Well I think anatomy is almost a completely visual-learning process... Do you have access to a skull? I took a skull home with me for a week and I had a list of all the things I thought I needed to be able to ID and I basically ran over the list every once in a while after studying something else until I could ID everything without the help of Netter's. Once you got that down I assume you just need to memorize what cranial nerves and vessels and whatnot run though there, but that shouldn't be too bad once you got the anatomy of the skull figured out. Its all about having the skull in front of you and repetition. Good luck!

Hahahaha.....
Lol I have not claimed that i know any secrets or the black magic to ingest the skull into your brain.🙂
That's the way I did it and was expecting someone else to give further details....like eating, sleeping etc etc....
Anyways,to the op there is really no shortcut to study the SKULL😀
