BTW, I am a big fan of player vs. player servers! 😍
It's going to be hard for me to resist The Old Republic. Star Wars was my childhood babysitter 😛
Should I assume the reason this thread hasn't been updated is that everyone has been playing Skyrim non-stop since Friday?
I may buy it eventually, but I have a lot of games to work through first. Right now I'm playing Mass Effect 2.
I've been enjoying this thread 🙂
I've got end-of-year exams so much game playing happening right now (or for a while), but as soon as I finish I'll be giving LA Noir a spin, Arkham, as well as finally finishing Portal 2 and attempting to get through the remaining chamber challenges in Portal 1. Skyrim looks good too.

I've been playing fantasy RPGs for a while now - started with really old-school games like Golden Axe, and have played tabletop games too. Actually, I think this style of gaming has helped me in my studies by teaching me to categorise things, remember rules, but to think flexibly as well.
I also play WoW (*waits to get panned for this*) but I'm not sure this really helps with psychology at all...except maybe with observing crowd/group psychology, and behaviours in an anonymous but structured environment at work 😀.

I called my son yesterday and he informed me that he needed to cut the call short if it was okay. Why? Because he had been playing "the most awesome game ever" and desperately needed a nap. My son never naps.![]()
Star Wars Galaxies sucked, badly.
I really want this new KOTOR to be good, but, chances are, it will disappoint hardcore gamers. When I looked at the class overview, it looked VERY tracked.
However, I do think the pvp will be fun in that it does not look like it will be a rock-paper-scissors situation.
Oh my God! This game has taken over my existence. Dissertation proposal?? What dissertation proposal??!!
you think its weak? I play on expert and my high elf mage destroys everything. You have to get impact (combined magic attacks stagger opponents) and the mage armor (wear all cloth and armor boosting spells do 2x, 3x, 4x protection). I have a mage companion now and it's just ridiculous.
Thief looks fun though. I am holding off on thieves guild quests so the game will have replay value.
Definitely. I have the PS3 version and it has texture loading issues.
Of course, it's got to be better than the Xbox version.
I have a Skyrim hangover...

This is why I had to stop gaming when I entered grad school. 😳 🙁 😡
I just bought this for PS3 and I am pretty happy with it so far. It looks a lot like oblivion (which is cool with me). I just tried to attack my first giant today and got taken out in one hit (I am a lvl 5).
The combination of an X-Box and a wide screen TV and Skyrim means that my dissertation proposal just won't get done!
It's nice to hear that other grad students suffer from gaming addictions ; )
I had to sell my very nice, very expensive gaming PC and switch to Mac because too much time was being wasted on video games instead of grad work. Macs, as any PC gamer knows, is an arctic tundra when it comes to worthwhile games. Unfortunately, all I've done is discovered console gaming on the XBOX, and Skyrim is coming for christmas. 2012 will be another unproductive year... oh well, its worth it ; )
I had the urge to revive this older thread since I'm finally getting around to playing Skyrim. I wonder when the novelty of being on post-doc and finally having time to do things I want will wear off. On the other hand, I have an article I'm supposed to submit at the end of this month that I haven't been working on very much. I guess some things never change.
Like war. War never changes. http://www.howlongtobeat.com/gameimages/Fallout_3_cover_art.PNG
Fallout 3 delayed a few of my manuscripts.
I just finished Fallout 3 about 3 weeks ago. "Finished" being a really loose term here, since I know I could always load it up again, wander around, and find even more things to do.
Boyfriend is picking up GTA V this week, so that'll be a nice stress reliever, haha.
Add me to the list of people excited for GTA V 🙂
I don't have much interest in the GTA games myself, but yeah, my partner is picking a copy up on Tuesday and plans to play it every minute he can outside of work this week.
I still haven't finished Skyrim 🙁. Though I picked up a copy of Diablo 3 for the console. Even though I played it 3 times over on the computer. Have I gotten to play it... Nooooooo.
I am going to be in serious trouble when dragon age 4 (or whatever it's going to be called) comes out.
I'm so excited for the next Dragon Age! I think it will be called Inquisition.
I'm looking forward to it as well. While I liked the second one, I wasn't nearly as smitten by it as I was the first, so I'm hoping they go back toward the original's style of play. I also wonder if the Architect (I think that was his name...?) will be making a re-appearance in #3.
I'm working through Borderlands w. my g/f. We bought the expansion packs too, so we have plenty of game left to do on it. 😀 I've heard Borderlands 2 is even better, so I'm stoked....though "The Last of Us" is probably going to be the next one on our list.
