Slacking off

YES. shortest, simplest. I really don't want to be in school right now .... only 3 weeks to spring break!!

On second thought, its not really slacking off -- I DO the work, I just have to overcome this amazing urge to NOT do the work, pass my classes w/ a C and not care.

So,now that a number of you have been accepted, do you find yourself slacking off your last semester?

BIG TIME. And I really shouldn't be, but the only class somewhat related to vet. med that I have this semester is Biochem II Lab. The rest of my classes are: advanced inorganic, pchem II, and Physics II. I calculated best and worst case GPA scenarios for this semester, and it comes down to something like 3.2 worst and 3.5 best. I really just want to finish and get out, so I will even take a C in Pchem II.😉

Since I graduated last May I only took one post-bac class in the fall and also took genetics this spring. But the class is torture, the professor nuts, and theres 8 weeks of school until break. And even more than that with my wisconsin rejection it is no longer a pre-req for any school...so it is going to take a lot of effort and motivation from somewhere to study and do well in this class!

I think the 79 I just got on my biochem II exam will answer that question. It's the lowest grade I've received in college... whoops! But, in all honestly, I'm going to work hard and get that grade back up to an A. I had a bunch of interviews and then the flu right before the exam, so it was just a really bad combination of events.

haha, yeah, my grades haven't been terrible, but they definitely aren't the best ones I've made. Right now, I'm sitting at a B+ to A- in most of my classes. However, I don't think that I would have done any better in speech if I had taken it when it really mattered to me because I am just not that good/ comfortable talking in front of the class. Anyhow, I guess that's why I saved it for last 🙂

the 79 I just got on my biochem II exam

There are times I wished I got that high (mostly in biochem I). Gotta love going to a school where they shoot for means of 60 on the exams.

Not only am I slacking off, I'm totally wasting away...I'm sitting at my computer all day, either on this forum or watching (and even RE-watching!) old episodes of The Real World/Road Rules Challenges. I can't stand the shows, but I'm addicted like crack to those challenges.

I only have 13 hours this semester anyway and my only pre req is Physics II and I find myself having a really hard time getting motivated to study. I got a 76 on my first test and in Physics I all my grades were above 90😀
I find myself wanting to get a C in some warped way since it would be my first one.

heh, i'm totally with you...average in a lot my my science/chem classes at UW (that's washington) are 60 or lower. ochem ones around a 50/125...not even 50%...and all the profs seem just fine with that.

after 6 years of sprinting hard towards the finish line I have decided to take a lap off

yes I am slacking...slacking hard...and my school told me just graduate and they don't care at all about the classes i am in now.

lol

I have definitely started to slack off! I got my first C on a test this quarter, and I was upset...but life goes on. I really have no motivation...especially for my night lab!

glad to see i'm not the only one who can't focus on schoolwork this semester! i calculated during the first week of school that if i get between a 2.0 and a 3.9 this semester, my honors ranking will stay the same. if i ever had any motivation to be hardcore this semester, that definitely killed it (no way i was going to be getting a 4.0 so it's not even worth the attempt). i took a red eye back from my davis interview last night, getting back to school at 10am. having studied zero the last 6 days while i've been in california (compounded with the fact that i haven't slept since sunday), i'm pretty sure this biochem test i'm headed up to take right now will be my worst grade in college...unless the a&p exam i have on friday beats it 🙂 yay senioritis.

Hey, me too. Well, the red eye back from Davis, not the exam. Though I did still have to come in to work (1hr+ commute each way) 🙁. And my boyfrined is at home with a day off. I really wish I'd planned to take today off to be with him...haven't seen him in a while. Oh well. Yay for exhaustion.

(Sorry, I guess that was kind of off topic...I'm not slacking off really and I don't have senioritis...just wishing I had a day at home. 🙂)

I actually got asked today by my favorite professor (and one of my two A's this midterm) whether I had a bad case of "senioritis" LOL. OK, I still want to do well in physics, because it's a pre-req., but I really don't care about P-chem and inorganic. I will not be using this information anytime soon (read: in this life), so I'm really rooting for B's in those two classes. It's not because I'm lazy, it's because each of them requires 10++ hours of studying every week, and I just don't have that much time to devote to classes that will be no use to me in vet. school.

I hate to inform you but our first course was physiological chemistry. It might be different at other schools but I don't think you've seen the last of p-chem.

I may be wrong, but I have a feeling the OP was referring to physical chemistry, not physiological chemistry. I'm crossing my fingers vet school steers clear of quantum and thermo...or else it's going to be a long 4 years 🙂

LOL. Yes, I was referring to physical chemistry--which is mostly quantum and kinetics (this semester). If that's part of vet. school, I don't know how I'm ever gonna become a vet.😀 or most "normal" people for that matter😀

P.S. I don't hold it against you, I forgot to decode it for non-chem majors 😀

After I posted I thought of that but don't know how to delete a post. So I figured I'd let it stand! So far we haven't had to deal with quantums...

If I didn't spend a ton of money of the masters program I'm in, I would definitely slack off a lot more. Plus, I've been so mentally brainwashed into having to "get good grades" in the last 4 and a half years, it's kind of hard to slack. Don't get me wrong though, I'm definitely trying to learn how to slack!

Slack = relaxation though! And that's not a bad thing for once!

For those of you who are working, when will you quit? Are you taking some time off in the summer before starting vet school? I'm thinking of taking the month of August off to just relax - no work, no volunteering, no school ...

If I get in this year I will definitely quit my job early. Maybe even in July!

I definitely support this. I didn't take much time off (a week) and I regret it. Take some time to relax and have fun.

I'm still waiting to hear if I'm in but I am waislited high enough OOS to be seriously thinking that it's a possibility! For now, I still have to bust my buns for my 2 classes (Ochem and Physics, one of which I will not need depending on which, if either, school I get in to)! I would love a break though!

My goodness, do I sympathize with you on that one! My biochem professor actually wrote the textbook... And pretty much expected us to memorize this entire thing. Not to mention we did the whole book in one semester. It was unreal... Pretty much came down to who had the most free time in their life to learn every diagram and structure.... Horrible...

I am staying on as the lab tech for Microbiology and Bacteriology at SIUE during the summer only b/c it is too late to find a quality person to hire and then train them. Thankfully, that ends in July and then I'm getting married!! Honeymoon and then vet school 🙂 Woohoo!

(congrats on the Illinois acceptance, too!)

If I get in, I will be quitting my job early in August and taking a 2 week vacation with my hubby and dog b/f starting school!!! 🙂

Congrats BartonVet87 on your upcoming marriage and on your acceptance!!! 😀

Definitely take time off before vet school. A) You'll be working insanely hard in vet school, so you'll wish you had a break. B) There are even more cool opportunities in the summer when you're a vet student, so you might want to take advantage of them when you're in vet school and NOT take your summers off. C) It's just great to do something fun.

I really wish I had gone to NYC last summer to visit friends. I may try to go this summer, but I've gotten on a really cool research project, so I may not have time.

I just gave my "one-month notice". I do love my job, but this semester has been so difficult, and I feel like a fish out of water in all those physics-based classes (which means I have to study a lot harder than for my normal chem. courses). I want to finish this semester with decent grades, and spend the entire summer relaxing (minus house hunting). Plus, we will be living separately with my husband for the whole duration of vet. school, so I figured this summer should be "our time". I want to get enough sleep before I have to give it up for four years.🙂

Definitely not putting as much effort into school this semester, but seeing as how I've been flying all over for interviews and missing more classes this semester as in my entire college carreer so far (& Im a no trad so I've had a lot of college career lol)I think it is understandable. I still am completing my biochem prereq so that class gets the majority of my effort. My online nutrition course (1st online course, and I don't like online) is going ok but I cant seem to get higher that a B. Oh well😳

As for stoping my job, since I have to find housing and move in to a diffrent state Im planning on moving the beginning of August. I was considering working until mid July, but the more I think about I may stop at the Beginning of July😀

I am definitely not putting neeeeaaarrly enough effort into many of my classes.

Before I was freaking out because I wasn't sure I'd made it so I wanted a 4.0 with 20 hours and two jobs so that I could prove to the committee the next year that I could definitely handle vet school.

But now that I made it in, I don't have that incredible need anymore. And to top it off, I'm taking a ton of classes that really don't feel useful any longer (Botany?...and statistics...I was only taking it to fill the prerequisites for some of the other schools I applied to and got rejected from).

I think the over achiever in me won't let me make less than A's (and a B in physics 2....and A is just not happening there), but man I feel much more relaxed now.

I had my biochem II final this morning and now I'm really regretting blowing off studying...especially since it was cumulative for both quarters. For some reason I was just hoping it would all come back to me when I started taking the test LOL I've definitely been slacking this quarter!

Who has a 12-page paper due tomorrow at 8am that she hasn't even started yet? I do, I do!! But first, lunch! 😉

Rock on! I totally have a presentation of my senior thesis (supposed to be 20 pages) in two weeks and I have....a really rough outline of my future paper that I haven't looked at in a week! Hooray!

I'm totally dropping the Biochem II class that I only needed for A&M. What a relief! The class itself was actually interesting, but the professor...couldn't take any more and now I don't have to! Neener neener! 😛

Haha! Nice! I like Biochem (as ridiculously hard as it is), but I SO wish I could drop physics. I want to gag just thinking about it. Blah.

I would just like to add that SDN is SOOOO not helping with the slacking off.
I'm so addicted. 😱

I feel you on that one! I'm spending my spring break writing my thesis, woohoo!

Fantastic!!

Update: it is now 1am and I am on page 5 of 12. 😉

That's something I'm definitely going to do! I'm moving from California to Kansas during the last week of July... so that I can start my lease in Kansas in August... I'm definitely going to take the month of July off... and maybe even the month of June! I'm working two tech jobs right now at two different emergency hospitals and working 6 to 7 days a week trying to save money is NOT fun.... I'm so tired all the time! So I'm really looking forward to having some time off.

I may visit some family in South Korea for 2 weeks... then I'm looking forward to the lazy days of summer..... eating, drinking, cooking, reading, relaxing on the beach (I'm going to miss the beach so much!!!), going out as much as possible with family and friends before the big move.... 🙂

I want to take time off, but I'm not sure I can. I need money to get to D.C. for my friend's wedding and then to College Station. 😕
So...right now I'm scheduled to quit at the beginning of June, go to the wedding June 15th, and then start that anatomy workshop June 23rd. Eeek.

this probably isn't the best thing to say, but since being accepted...i have NEVER partied so much in my life....I am ABSOLUTELY loving it...and my grades aren't suffering, thank goodness: I am taking 13 credit hours - calculus II, organic II, history, and personal finance. Frankly, I find myself bored most of the time...I like to learn and it is weird not having to push myself, nice, but a strange feeling overall.

Haha, that probably isn't the best idea for everyone! I'm glad you're enjoying the time before vet school, though.

Yeah, I not saying to go to that by any means...but when tests come around, drinking is put on the back burner...so I do study, just not doing it all the time like I was before...

***I will add a disclaimer to my previous post: Not recommending anybody do that, but if you must, do at your own risk. 😀

Ps. I have all the intentions of getting a 4.0 this semster, just because of the light course load. That way I can graduate summa cum laude...yay!
