Slightly different RC question

I hope this wasn't answered before, I tried doing a search but came up with nothing. I just took the first TS RC test and did fairly well (25). However, I knew a couple of the answers to the questions just from my knowledge of the topics (diabetes for instance). I was wondering if its safe to use your own knowledge to answer questions (assuming you know the topic).
Also, the TS tests were different from the Barrons tests which were very technical dental related. Understandably, I didn't know as much beforehand going into those passages. Another question I have is if the passages on the DAT are about more obscure aspects or not. Thanks everyone.

Mine were all science related...I don't know if you consider that technical or not. They all were in more detail than I already knew of the subject. I think that's typical. You may know something about the subject but not in the detail they talk about it. I took my DAT last year, and now I only remember what one of the subjects were. It was about aging and covered more detail than I knew about the subject. It was specific to a part of aging, but I don't remember what anymore.

Those RC questions are a strange breed. I don't know what to say. If there is time, sure search the questions, till you find the exact answer. If there is no time, then using your background knowledge is better than nothing.

I know that doesn't help too much because the RC is a weird section.
