Hey everyone,
It's one of those threads. I just got into SLU and am anticipating an acceptance from MCO (3rd on list). Anyways, which would you choose and why?? I am from CA btw. Thanks!

Jet915,
Depends on the location (distance from home) and cost. Where is MCO? Is it a private school as well?

SLU is very expensive. You can get in-state tuition after one year at MCO. MCO's facilities are very nice and the school is very student oriented. I haven't seen SLU's matchlist, but MCO's was good. Financially speaking, I would choose MCO.

Hi Jet915,

I don't know anything about SLU so I can't comment. I'm going to MCO in the fall and I am getting very excited for it. From what I have heard, the faculty is very helpful and the school is like a big family which is very supportive. Plus the largest population of out-of staters come from CA.

The curriculum is also structured very well...with a combined lecture-discussion blocks and case based learning small group sessions. There are tons of opportunities for campus involvement through numerous medical student organizations. There is even a club in which the med students run a free clinic and work with doctors to care for the poor to gain more patient care experience.

The facilities are really modern and nice. There's also many opportunities to become involved in research since the school also has a graduate Ph'd program in areas of the biological sciences.

This past years match lists looked great! Some derm and orthopedics and a spread of the other areas with impressive placements.

I received a schedule in the mail and it looks like the class has lots of fun events scheduled like Medicine Ball formal, Barbecues, Talent Shows, parents weekend (mom and dad can learn to suture)....etc.

Good luck!

I don't know anything about MCO, so I can't compare. I just wanted to say that SLU also has a free clinic that med students staff called La Clinica. It serves mostly hispanic residents, I think (but med students have said they get along fine w/o knowing spanish--there are some people who can interpret, and you just learn as you go).

Thanks for the input, anyone else??

Can anyone post the link to MCO's matchlist?? I cant seem to find it on their website. Thanks.

If mazerati is correct about the in-state tuition thing after one-year, then I think that the choice is obvious unless you're very loaded with cash.

Doing well at MCO or anywhere gives you a good shot at almost anything you want for residency.

Besides, MCO is not too far from Cleveland Clinic, which is one of the best in the land.
