ok guys i'll be honest with you here as I'm quite worried and don't know what to do or think really.

As an american perm resident, i got waitlisted and rejected from most US schools I applied to but got into UCC and will be living in Farranlea halls... while i guess I should be happy that I got into a med school, i'm really quite worried that by going to UCC, I may not be able to get back to the US for residencies as I would truly truly like to practice medicine in the US. However, at the same time I think it would be silly for me to reject an offer of acceptance to what seems to be a decent school (can't find much info on this either). I am just really quite unsure though of how many UCC graduates manage to get a fairly competitive or decent residency position in the US. I just ultimately would like to practice there and would re-apply to the US if I f ound it feasible but I've gotten this acceptance already.

Any suggestions or detailed thoughts would be extremely extremely helpful

Dang! This is posted in the 'Europe' form, the 'Canaian IMG' form, and twice in the pre-allo form. I hope you get the answer you are looking for! :luck:

I don't know anything about UCC-Cork (in ireland), but I did have a friend who went to medical school in ireland (he used to be a resident of California) and is now doing an IM residency in New York (Manhattan). I think he said the diference in the where he went and a us school training is that the us schools emphasize alot of procedures... "this is how you order x test... this is the paperwork you need to do", where as the place he went to focused much more on the patient contact and physical diagnosis (without all the tests)... or something like that... He said that alot of the older physicians liked him because he was doing things the way they were were taught... more hands on (or something), but that he had to learn how to deal with the hospital way of doing things.

If you would like, I'll e-mail your question to him and see if I get a response... lemme know.

What do you consider 'fairly competitive' and 'decent' to be?
What specialties are you thinking about?

Maybe if you can answer those, some other people can help out more.

hey thanks for your replies guys

UCC is a medical college in Ireland. University College Cork is the full name, i'm sorry for not writing it all out, i was in a rush to type the whoel thing and didn't realize i forgot to write it out in full.

And again my apologies for hitting this in multiple forums, i just wanted to get as many responses as possible and stuff from different people an dhave various opinions. I generally don't do this at all but right now i'm desperate for the intelligent opinions offered on this board.

well i guess what i meant by the kind of residency i wanted i meant more slightly bigger town to urban residencies as opposed to extremely small towns...again i know that geography doesn't dictate how good a residency is, in fact... i'll just broaden it to any residency in the US... A residency in the US...

I'll e-mail your posts to the guy I know... we'll see what he has to say.
