I'm going to apply to SMDEP this fall and was looking at some of the program site websites.

A lot of them give precedence to minority students, I'm an Asian Female, more specifically a Pakistani Female, am I a minority?

Also, do I still have a chance of getting into these programs even though I might not be African American, Native American, or Hispanic?

Also, are we allowed to apply to more than one program (Like UVA, Duke, and all those other programs)?

I did SMDEP at UVA. Im not sure how they classify a minority but my class was very diverse. There were African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and Caucasians, so although the program is designed for students who are underrepresented in medicine i would still give it a shot if it seems like something that you would really be interested in. I believe you are allowed to apply to up to 3 program sites.

They mean URM

Hispanic, African American, Female, Native American

Being Asian doesn't help

Yeah I figured, maybe being female might, but as the above comment said, there were caucasians which is a relief, looking forward to applying to this program 🙂

I did SMDEP and I'm Asian... I wouldn't let the URM status discourage you, a steady public health/health disparities interest would help if anything

Key is to apply early. No matter what apply as early as you can. If you apply early I'm pretty sure you can get in with a mediocre application

Well I'll be a freshman, so the earliest I can apply is after I get my first transcript, hope my application isn't mega late 🙁
