Hi guys. I'm very far away from my master's in anything as im still taking care of my core classes to get my bachelors degree. depending on how things progress i have someone confident in me and is willing to use her alumni points from Smith College on me. I know how selective this college is and would like to hear stories or experiences form the past as well as present if you have made it to or graduated or even didnt graduate. anything is greatly appreciated.

I wasn't aware Smith had a graduate program in psychology. What program are you thinking of applying to there?

In any case, the rigor of an institution's undergraduate program generally has little to do with the quality of the grad program. Don't be discouraged from applying to Smith simply because it is competitive for the undergrads. Grad school is an entirely different ball game.

thanks for the reply, im positive they offer a masters in clinical psychology and forensic psychology. im leaning more towards a degree in the forensics of the subject.

I didn't know they offered an M.A. in Clinical. Is the graduate school also all female?

I think Smith is the biggest example of what someone on this board recently called, 'graduate school being a whole new ballgame.' Smith is 'more selective' at the undergraduate level and considered on par with Ivy League schools in some circles. But my friend recently applid to their M.S.W. program which was an 89% acceptance rate (the highest in the country!)...So perhaps their Master's programs in Psychology aren't so competetive either...maybe since not many people even know they offer such programs.

The graduate programs at Smith College are as follows:
Master of Arts in Teaching
Master of Education, Master of Education of the Deaf
Master of Fine Arts in Dance
Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting
Master of Science in Biological Sciences
Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Studies
Cooperative Ph.D. Program
Master/Ph.D. of Social Work

A note on the Cooperative Ph.D. programs from the website:

A cooperative doctoral program is offered by Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke and Smith colleges and the University of Massachusetts in the fields of astronomy, biological sciences, chemistry, geology, history and physics. The degree is awarded by the university in cooperation with the institution in which the student has done the research for the dissertation.

No sign of a Psychology masters, but could you possibly be thinking of the Social Work program.. or even UMass Amherst?

Hope this helps.
