Hi everyone,

I recently got accepted into a smp and I'm pretty excited. However, I feel that I got accepted too early. I'm pretty poor at this point in the application process and I am trying to save money any way possible, especially with facing the prospect of apply all over again.

I've been waitlisted at medical schools and I was hoping to delay putting down a deposit for the smp program, in case I get off a waitlist right after May 15th. I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars in this process and would hate to lose hundreds more. I have about a week before I have to put down a deposit, but I really want to try and put it off till about the Friday after May 15th, two more weeks.

What would be the best course of action between the following options:

A) come clean, inform the smp program that I've been waitlisted at a medical school and I want some extra time to see if I get pulled off a waitlist and save some money in the process

B) come partially clean, explain that towards the end of the application process I'm pretty poor and its going to take some extra time to get the money for the deposit and ask for an extension.

Thanks for the advice.

If you have to apply all over again, aren't you going to have to do the SMP? That would mean having to pay the deposit.

If you get off the waitlist, you'll be out the few hundred bucks for the SMP deposit, but not have to pay several thousand to reapply to med school. You'll probably pay for AMCAS, but most wait list movement is over by July, when secondary fees start sending the credit card bill skyrocketing.

Go with option B if you realistically want an extension from the SMP for the deposit even though it isn't completely morally correct.

For me, spending several hundred is a worthwhile investment to be safe. If **** really hits the fan, then you still have a solid option to fall back on if you don't get off any waitlists. The worst possible scenario for you at this point is if they give away your seat in the SMP and you're left with nothing to do for a year to improve your application. I know you're strapped for money at this point but to me, this isn't something that's worth skimping on in the bigger picture.

My own 2 cents.
