I am currently enrolled in the Georgetown SMP program. I am trying to fix an awful undergraduate GPA. A B=keeping up with the medical students at Georgetown SOM. An A=top 10-15% of medical school class. How high does my SMP GPA need to be for medical schools to consider it a bolster to my resume (any school, not necessarily top tier ones)?

THANKS!

I was told by an admissions representative at UC Davis that if I did an SMP they would want to see a 3.9 or higher... Granted that is the UC's, but still you can see that they want to see quite an improvement.

As far as other schools go, I was under the impression that anywhere around a 3.5 cumulative in the program will do well to get you into programs that know the Georgetown SMP. The problem is that if a school doesn't understand the nature of the SMP a 3.5 would look terrible because most Masters candidates get near a 4.0... If you get less than a 4.0 (which most do in the SMP) then you'll just want to do EVERYTHING you can to make sure that the schools you applied to understand the difference between the Georgetown SMP and a research based masters.

Best of luck!

PS. I am not an authority as I am in the Georgetown SMP with you right now, this is just what I have gathered 🙂

First, ask the person in charge of your program at GTown. They've been doing this for years, they probably know better than we do. If you're not in the bottom 20% of your SMP class you're probably fine.

Second, the answer to this can't possibly help you. You're in the program, so at this point all you can do is the best you can do. So stop screwing around on the internet and go do your best.
