My question regards what is expected from students in a SMP program. First, I'm in a SMP at the University of Michigan Medical school.

My coordinators insist that if you have a B average, medical schools will look very favorably upon that. I've also read this too. However, I've heard/read that you need to do extremely well in an SMP to get a solid look from medical schools.

So, what is it?

I'd like to here from people that have completed a SMP/advisors/ADCOMS as I would expect them to have credible insight about this process. However, any insight is appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

When SMP advisors make that statement, they often aren't distinguishing between MD and DO medical school programs. Theoretically, your coordinators should be able to give you hard statistics about alums' SMP GPAs for those who got accepted to MD programs vs DO programs. Those here at SDN who have reported back on the answer they received from various programs often say they were told, "That data isn't available." Maybe your program will be more straight forward. It doesn't hurt to ask.

You can probably get a general gestault about this issue by reading through School Specific threads in the Postbaccalaureate Programs Forum, but it's my impression when popping in there from time to time that a 3.0 SMP won't get you much attention from MD programs.
