Hi guys,

I'm new here and I just found out about SMP's.
A little bit about my background.
I'm a senior at U of Maryland with only 1 semester left)
I have a 3.148 cum GPA
I have a 3.43 non science GPA
I have a 3.045 science GPA, not the greatest I know.

I've been an EMT since I was 16 and I'm taking the year off to become a Paramedic. So by the end of the year I will be a national registry paramedic, and then in the fall of 2010 I will return to maryland to finish my last semester. That would mean that I will be starting the SMP in August of 2011 so I wouldn't be applying until May 2010. I have yet to take the MCAT but I was considering taking the GRE in case I could get a better score.
My GPA should go up ( or at least my non-science GPA) since I'm taking the Paramedic course at a community college.

Does anyone know of my chances of getting into an SMP?

Your GPA is in the right range. It all depends on your test score and the rest of your app. Do you have other ECs other than the EMT? How about comm service?? research?

Also, I'd recommend taking the MCAT. If you're serious about this, you should be able to do well on it. Plus, once you're in the SMP, there's no way you'd be able to take the MCAT. That means you'd have to take another year off after the SMP.

I don't think you can get into an SMP with only GRE scores. The highly regarded SMP programs accept only MCAT scores and require that you complete your pre-requisites first. Otherwise, I think you're GPA is in competitive range for most SMP programs. As the previous poster mentioned, do well on your MCAT because you will not have time to study for it or retake it once you start the SMP.
