Hi all! This application cycle isn't looking so good for me, so I've started on my apps to various SMPs. I plan on applying to Georgetown, Cincy, Tufts, (maybe) Drexel IMS, (maybe) Toledo, VCU, and Tulane (if I am waitlisted this cycle). However, I'm still holding out a little bit of hope at receiving an interview soon.

How important is applying early? I've heard stories of people applying in May and getting in, but REALISTICALLY. I'm a 3.35, 3.25, 30R applicant with loads of ECs and strong LORs. I was planning on applying in January, but does that put me at a disadvantage?

Welcome! This application cycle isn't looking good for me either and I applied DO. Applying early is important regardless of the program. I took the MCAT last March and applied to several SMPs in April.

I have slightly lower stats than you do, but strong ECs/LORs, and I got in around June/July. I didn't go because I took a chance on the 2011 application cycle. For you, you'll be fine. January is when most SMPs open up/start reviewing applications. I think it'd be important to apply as early as possible to GU/Cincy since those programs are competitive.

If you don't mind me asking, which SMP's did you apply to last year and which ones were you accepted to?

I'm in BU MAMS, I think you'll be fine. Plenty of my classmates were not accepted till late summer. With your stats you shouldn't worry too much. January is right on par for most from what I have gathered in my SMP. Most people I asked said they applied in April or March.

I'm currently in the Tufts MBS program, I applied pretty early (mid-February-ish) and got in around May.

A lot of my friends in the program applied really late and got in so it's possible, but as long as you apply January or February you should be fine. Like the person above said most places only open their apps in January.

My GPA is a little better than yours but my MCAT was lower at the time. I got waitlisted at Georgetown (and got in after they saw my updated MCAT) and I got into Loyola, NYMC SMPs and didn't get in to USF's (weird!) and Cinci's.

Also, don't apply to drexel. I've heard bad bad things about it. People tend to call it the "Walmart" of SMPs 😛

I second not applying to drexel. I have also heard bad things.
I'll throw barry in that pile of "places I've not heard good things about".

Alrighty, no Drexel. I had a bit of a bad feeling about it anyway. I'm planning to apply to Georgetown, cincy, and tufts soon.
