Applied this year, heard nothing yet. I think my MCAT and undergrad GPA are too low. What to do next?
I have a degree in econ from a top state school from 06. Did an unofficial post-bac at another state school finishing up in 2010.
Undergrad GPA 2.5
Post-bac GPA in pre-medical sciences - 3.8
Overall gpa 2.94
Overall science gpa 3.25
Took the MCAT twice. Once in August of 2010. Pressured myself into takin it before completing physics II and organic II. Took it a second time in July of 2011. I scored 28, 28, and 30 on my final three AAMC practice exams in June 2011. So I went in somewhat confident.
August 2010 8V5P8B 21L
July 2011 9V7P8B 24N
AACOMAS application complete September 11th. My mother passed Sept 28th, so my secondaries took some time with all of them complete by mid to late October.
I used exam krackers at home the 2nd time around and really enjoyed it. I am open to a prep course which I hope will help me identify and strengthen my weaknesses.
The most noteworthy volunteering: 210 hospital volunteer hours, 270 research hours at a COM, 85 hours shadowing, 400 hours as a GED prep course volunteer for at risk, inner city youth.
What should I do next? I am leaning towards beginning a MCAT prep course in January to take the exam in the Spring in time for applying next year.
Thanks for the advice.
