Hi all,

I have posted on here before, but I thought I should post again to see what you all think. I have a3.4 cGPA, 3.25 sGPA, with a 517 MCAT. I have lots of volunteer hours working with under served communities, along with around 450 hours of clinical volunteering at a children's hospital for under served communities as well. I have around 100-110 hours of shadowing an Orthopedic Surgeon, a cardiologist, and a DO primary care physician. I have around 1200+ hours of undergrad research with no publications, and have been working for the past year at an Alzheimer's Research lab as a lab technician where I will be getting published as a second author in one paper and a third author in another paper by the end of the summer. I think my whole application is pretty solid, except for the GPA. I also have a really **** GPA trend, where I had a high freshman year (3.8), then dropped sophomore year (2.8), then went up a little bit to around a 3.5 for junior year, and then senior year first semester I got a 4.0, and then second semester I got a 3.0. So, my GPA is a roller coaster, which does not look good. I did take 4 post-bacc classes while working full time this past year and have a 3.7 overall in the post-bacc classes, which were all upper division science classes.

I have been accepted to 3 SMP programs: Georgetown, Boston, and Cincinnati. I am heavily leaning towards Cincinnati and will probably accept Cincinnati after talking to a few people who have gone through the program. My question is, should I apply during the program or after? Cincinnati has a new policy, where if you get a B+ or higher in the medical school classes, they will grant you an automatic interview for the following cycle, if you don't apply while in the program. If you do apply while in the program, you will not have the chance to get the automatic interview for the following year. So, what do you guys think? Should I apply now or after? If I should apply after, is there anything I could do to improve my application for the following year. Is there anything on my application, other than my GPA, that I could improve on?
Why would an screener or Adcom member be impressed by an app from someone IN a program, as opposed to one who has successfully completed a program????

@Catalystik I totally understand. I am aiming for a 3.9+. I am leaning towards Cincinnati because of its small class size, but would getting a 3.9+ at Cincinnati look the same as getting a 3.9+ at Georgetown?

Look at this link to see where Cinncy alumns ended up (note that you can view multiple years). If med schools like those are where you'd be happy ending up, then for your purposes UCincinnati SMP is a good choice for you.
