the average board scores of those who matched tomorrow? I'm going to be matching next year and am wondering about the "huge increase" in EM competitiveness...

My understanding is that only the early match provides data like that, not the regular match.

If there was a huge increase in avg. board scores it won't be my fault 😀 Guess mine were high enough though
Can you tell I am still in a state of shock

I dont think they release it either, my school RFUMS does compile everyones data and hands it out to the rising 3rd yrs..

Anyhow.. for my school the avg of the 20 or so people that matched into EM last yr was 228, that being said that is way higher than the national avg. My guess is that it would be around 220-223 for the national average. One of my close buds had a 252, and I know 4 others (who I am sure matched) all had over 240s. The Fetus didnt fair quite as well but it looks like i did well enough!

myself on the other hand, fighting to lower the standard curve! yeah!! (ok so maybe i took step 1 like 5-6 years ago and just couldnt get to care as much)

So I'm helping to post pad this afternoon... need to kill something like 19.5 hours now... I also did my part to be on the left side of the bell curve in regards to board scores. But I matched to its all good!

hi five RR!!

Board scores mean very little in the end game. Most of the traffic on this board that emphasizes the scores are from neurotic final year med students...

Board scores do mean ALOT to get you more interviews. Probably even more so for DO applicants and definately even more so for FMGs.

So my experience (n=7 friends 🙂 was that board scores above 210 got >50% return on interviews and board scores <200 got about 10% return for interviews. Of course with only 7 people thats not worth much but I think board scores help get you to the interviews but then they do not matter AS much... just my neurotic opinion 🙂 LOL 🙂

I would tend to agree with RR on the numbers. I had a 217 and got ~75-85% of my interviews. Take that FWIW.

I would also like to say that IMO I could have gotten a higher % but I applied to programs all over including some in parts of the US I have never been even close to.

All that being said there was only 1 interview that I REALLY wanted that I didnt get!

215 and 227 respectively as an FMG. 20% return on apps. As I said for FMGs boards are crucial. I have friends with worse scores who did much worse getting interviews and friends with better scores who faired better.

There were 3 interviews I really wanted and conveyed via email that I wanted them and didn't get them.

there was one place that i really wanted to rotate, but then they lost my application....twice; then they never got back to me about an interview, even after i actually called expressing interest. you just can't win with some people. i s'ppose they suck since they lost my application TWICE(!!!) anyway...

There were two programs I tried to rotate with that turned me down. One was also one of the places that I really wanted the interview but didn't get.
The other I not only got the interview but also a sincere sounding apology by the PD when he found out the school shut me down. 😀 Not that I complained to him but he asked why I didn't rotate with him so......

Tomorrow... well we will see how +EtOH I am.. perhaps Friday..

I had a program that rejected me for a rotation and when I thought it was because the time was full, I emailed and said is there a better time, the response was basically no dont bother.

Then they gave me an interview.. weird..

Double bottom line.. Congrats and party hardy guys and gals!

I was wrong. apparently they let us have our letters at 12. Took a second year ENT to find out. how do i remain so clueless is really quite beyond my understanding. i wonder if it's a skill i could market?
