Hey, I was preparing for PCAT on October and I almost finished pharmCAS except personal statement. I'm doing a volunteer in university hospital, which is the one of pharmacy school that I'm applying to, but it's not pharmacy-related. I live in PA and although my state do not require pharmacy technician license, I got mine last month and I actually did an interview with Walgreens without having any pharmacy-related experience but they never called me back.. 🙁
I submitted job application in different retail pharmacy but no luck so far... and now I find myself having no pharmacy-related experience at all. My best wish was to get a some kind of experience before I apply so that I can put that in my pharmCAS application but I might just need to apply without it. The schools I'm looking at are Temple and Jefferson University, my question is do you think it will have big impact on my application process and if I can get a pharmacy-related job before I conduct an interview, that is after I submit my application, would it have a positive influence for decision?

P.S. I have like 3.2 GPA and 57 percentile on my first PCAT exam but will improve a lot for October since I studied a lot more

You got to go drop off your resume at retail pharmacies. I dropped off maybe 30 a year ago and am still hearing back from them. Heard back from over 7 or 8.

oh really? I thought they look at your job application when I submit through online... 🙁

I just applied to a couple hospitals online and they got back to me within a week or so. My guess is maybe you can talk to pharmacy director of hospital.. but I wouldn't.

As far as retail just walk in when it's less busy and ask for the pharmacy manager and inquire about open positions and drop off your resume. Yes you should still put in an online application so that your in the system but the key to getting job is through connections or go in and speak with them.

However it might be tough because they know you'll only be there less than a year. So you got to sell it to them. My pharmacy manager have me a chance even though I told them I would only be there for like 10 months.

Good luck.

Thank you for the advice

I will try to walk in to retail pharmacy and ask if they have any available position. As far as duration of job length, I will try to get part time or minimum hours emphasizing I need some on-hand retail pharmacy experience.

Doesn't your college have some sort of Internship Center where you can apply for pharmacy internships?

No, I asked them about it and they said I need to find it by myself, and pharmacy internship only applies to people who are in actual pharmacy school from what I heard..

That's true. I should have said "undergrad" intern instead lol. 🙄

But that sucks that you gotta find one on your own.

Have you applied to a hospital yet? They hire quite a bit and you will actually learn something instead of being a cashier at CVS

hi, i'm applying to the same schools as you & I know for a fact for TJU and Temple pharmacy work experience is not required. Don't stress about it too much, but keep trying! there are plenty of opportunities in the area. Good luck!
