I'm going to be a sophomore this year and transferred schools. Freshman year i went to a small private university and now I'm going to a large public one so that I can have more opportunities in terms of research and things of that nature. So I registered for my classes at the beginning of the summer after transferring my credits. Well it's now three weeks before school starts and I've been kicked out of my general biology class because when I sent my transcript over it didn't have the "final" grades for my second semester classes which included the math class necessary to take the biology class. I had my transcript sent after classes ended and asked the registrar to make sure they were the finalized grades and they didn't. So now I can't take Biology (which I absolutely need to take in order to take the higher level bio classes) organic chemistry is full, etc. So now I have to spend a year taking all electives for my major and will have to take summer classes all next summer and double up junior year (genetics, organic, ecology, microbiology, immunology) all while studying for the mcat. Any suggestions as to what I should do or take?

I've already taken gen chem and physics.

Medical school isn't going anywhere. There's no rush, and don't sacrifice your health, sanity, and grades in order to start med school a year earlier. Keep calm and carry on /chive 😛

They tend to screw over transfer students at any university. I had to be extremely proactive when I transferred to a massive state school. I immediately started emailing professors and departments about getting special permissions numbers to get access to seats for some classes.

I am not sure if your school has a similar process, but they often do hold seats for transfers if you email the professors. They often understand that transfer students come in after all of the courses have been filled.

I went from not being able to take any courses related to my major to being in several major specific courses. So it is possible. Just gotta send out alot of emails. Massive universities are easy to fall through the cracks :/

Good Luck though!

If I were to take 4 years instead of 5 wouldn't it look bad though? The med schools might be a little more understanding because of my situation but still.

I'm in a similar boat, will take 5 years instead of 4...have been told by everyone on here that it doesn't make a difference as long as all else is good.

I'd email professors as the person above said. Have you been able to provide the final grades now? Maybe if you can show them, they can make an exception too.

Hi, I am new to SDN. I would just like to say, th!at I was in the same position. Like Mava88 said, I emailed professors and was able to register for one of the science courses. I hope everything works out for you
