So I may get a C in Organic Chemistry, what are my chances?

So I am taking Organic Chemistry for the first time, and the semester is nearly over but I feel like I am most probably going to get a C in it. I have never gotten lower than a B in my life (my friends call me the C-virgin) 😵

I am so worried that this will knock down my chances of getting into a vet school. I have a 3.67 cumulative GPA but it looks like its probably going to get knocked down to a 3.59 GPA.

My top choice for vet school is UC Davis but at this point frankly anything is good. My science GPA before this incredibly tough semester was a 3.8 but now it might be a bit lower like probably a 3.6

One C will not keep you from being accepted to vet school. You'll find that many amazing applicants on this forum got in with a C or 2 (or worse). If you're just now taking OChem, then you probably have several other pre-reqs (and other courses) to complete, so just shake it off and keep plugging away. You'll be fine. 🙂

OH NOEZ! A C!

Ok. Sorry. I'm not trying to mock yer pain, because I know it's probably disappointing to get a C.

But seriously, it's one grade. Relax. Look forward, not backward. Don't make excuses for it being an "incredibly tough semester" because that's a crappy excuse. Figure out why you got a C and do what it takes to do better.

But for down the road, yes, you can get in with a C in organic chemistry. I mean, a 3.67 is probably somewhere around the mean pre-req gpa for many/most vet schools. It's certainly going to be well within the mid 50th percentile.

Go look at UCDavis's web site. The c/o 2017 GPA averages were: 3.69 (cumulative), 3.69 (science pre-req), and 3.81 (last 45). Looks to me like you're more or less on track. Just quit getting C's.

On a slightly different note, if your professor curves at all you may get a pleasant surprise. I thought for sure I'd get a C in orgo 1 and ended up with a B thanks to the class curve.

Slow down there! I had 4 C's on my transcript (in Gen Chem 1/2, Orgo 2, and Genetics), and I was accepted with a 3.5 cumulative GPA to three schools (after being wait listed at all of them) on my first application cycle. Don't worry about it, move on, and kick ass in your remaining classes.

I got a C in organic chemistry. Lots of Bs elsewhere, too. Still had a very respectable GPA and got in. Don't stress, but make sure you analyze and fix whatever made you get that lower grade so it doesn't become a pattern. 🙂

My only C in undergrad was also in organic chem. It was the reason why I joined SDN actually, I was freaking out that it would ruin my chances of getting into vet school. Everyone reassured me that one C wouldn't have a huge impact and they were right, I still got in. Don't worry OP, as long as it's not the beginning of a downward trend, you're going to be fine!

I got a c+/c in organic chem. I got in. Actually at one of my interviews they asked me about what was one of your toughest classes (and one of the interviewers said you can't say organic chem because that's hard for nearly everyone).

Also, I did a lot better in biochem than in organic chemistry which I believe demonstrated to the admissions people that organic chem was a fluke (or something like that).

I definitely had lots of Cs and Bs on my undergrad transcript and I'm about to start clinics in a few weeks. Also, it might look like your GPA is taking a hard hit at the moment, but I bet when you rack up a bunch more credit hours, it will barely make a dent, if at all.

I got C in Cell Biology, then retook it (with a different/better professor) and got a B+. If you don't feel comfortable with the material, you can retake it. Many schools will average grades of classes that are repeated.

C's in OChem (plus first anxiety attack and stomach ulcers....wish I was kidding) and Gen Chem II.

One year till graduation from vet school - and surprise surprise, I still haven't used ANY OF THAT CRAP!.... *grumbles under her breath and crawls back into bed*

I got, gulp, a D in organic chem 2 and thus had to retake it for vet school prereq purposes. Still got in to vet school on my first application round. You'll be fine.
