I'm gonna guess a lot of people didn't vote their actual ethnicity just to screw up these results. I'd take these with a grain of salt.

I noticed you didn't put an option for someone of indian heritage who was born in south africa so technically I'm a URM?

Not going to lie, I thought I would see a lot more caucasian respondents. I'm quite happy to see this is not the case!

(There's nothing wrong with being white, but a bit of diversity is awesome!)

Except it's missing an option for "Troll." I would take the results with a grain of salt. In fact...I'd toss them out the window.

Agreed. I'm having trouble believing these results. 13% Native American is a little too impressive.

13% Native American. 🤣

Edit: Microglia beat me to it.

100% Welsch American

For future reference, a multiple-choice poll would be best for those with mixed ethnicity. (Though not sure if SDN can do that)

The poll was about ethnicity, not race.
That is how Americans define race- Caucasian and African American, even though it is completely based on looks and doesn't make sense.

Yeah. Ethnicity is about lineage not just color. It's a genetically supported concept whereas race is purely social.

Pfft same thing according to preallo :naughty:
I've come to expect as much from this forum as of late.

The poll options made it clear what OP actually meant. He/she just used ethnicity to avoid getting flamed.

African American is race. Any premed from Jamaica/DR/etc would put African America, what else would they put + gives clear advantage.
Ethnicity is literally where you were born/customs.
Race is how you see yourself/how other people see you.

My Italian friend puts African American even though he was lived in Italy to Italian parents (adopted).

Sociology 101 babes.

No. It is an ethnic group. Black is the associated race. Race is a social construct.

True, but that's how we define it for some reason. Black would be great, but lots of times there is no black option, just African American.
The whole system is messed up, honestly.

I'm 1/32nd Cherokee, which makes me Native American!

Don't you know? On SDN, Asians and Indians are URM. All peoples from East Asia qualify for the SDN scholarship to medical school, which is worth exactly two and a half pats on the back.
Actually, most Asian and (Asian) Indian applicants are considered ORM.

don't think you got the heavy dose of sarcasm in that post..

I can't believe people still use Caucasian and African american. White and black, everybody.
I guess I'm sort of a milk chocolate, 1/2 white and 1/2 brown (east indian).
Or, as my frat brothers called me: hashbrown, white on the inside and lightly toasted on the outside.
