Sorry other thread got messed up! 🙄

=======================================================

So I am posting this as a joke sorta, but if you have any advice please post! 🙁

ECs, LORs, PS = AWESOME
Tons of volunteering, shadowing, community service, etc, etc...
Great letters from profs, advisors, volunteer coordinators, etc, etc...

Also, I am a URM - but I don't want to use that if I don't have to - just wanted all my info out there...

GPA, 3.3
BPCM, 3.2
MCAT, 19O (HA) :barf: ( I think they messed up on my scores :meanie: )

So what are my chances for a DO school?

Know anyone that got in with teens? 😳

===================================================

P.S. I am planning on retaking - but humor me? 🙁

Yeah guy retake it. I think being a URM will help, but you got to come with at least 20 something. Your GPA is decent.

So are saying that if I got ONE more point on the MCAT I could have a chance? Why the big difference in one point? :scared:

It's because it is a teen-number isn't it, ugh 🙁

Nah. I think mid twenties. You may get away with like a 24 or something being URM. Oh, make no mistake about it those points are valuable. remember its out of 45 not 100, but its not a percentage so thats a moot point.

Ah, okay I gotcha - thanks alot 👍

I'm in the same boat as you are.
Sci. GPA: 3.4
Overall GPA: 3.43
MCAT: 20 Q

Have you submitted your apps? I submitted mine before the MCAT was posted and was verified and sent out to the schools on June 6th already so I cannot cancel them and so I might as well fill out the secondaries, if I get any, and see what happens. Who knows, I might get lucky like a few profiles I saw on mdapplicants.com.

Hey I am submitting tomorrow or prolly Friday. Are you retaking???

Most of the DO schools that I have looked into have a minimum of 21 on the MCAT. Of course, I haven't looked at those in quite some time, so I may be "out of date".

I remembered only one having minimum MCAT requirement.

Yes, it's a matter of when. I don't know if I should take it this August because I didn't want to risk and check that on the application. So, if I decide to retake it I will not get the score until October, which means the schools that will reject me will have already done so. I don't see a point. And even with those that give me interviews or put me on hold. If they decide to do so then it means that see something they like in my apps already. Plus, I don't think two months is going to be enough time for significant improvements, in my situation. I know my abilities.

i got my scores back too and i am very bummed..i am hoping for AZCOM UNECOM ...but now im hoping for ANY school to take me...

stats: 3.25 cum roughly same sci GPA
MCAT: 24 (8,8,8)

very good LOR, gone on rounds at hospital, shadow DO at family clinic, 1 publication (not first author), 2 and a half years research on antimicrobials, a little volunteering, no officer positions but members of several clubs, go to UT-austin(texas)

working on Personal statement..

i think i can get into somewhere..but prolly not AZCOM or UNECOM =(

main criteria for me in choosing schools used to be: location, weather, match list

criteria now: if they are willing to accept. hehe

Is this really true? So you mean that there would be no benefit of retaking for the 2006 cycle?

Does anyone else have a say on this too? I was going to retake in Aug., but I didn't think schools would reject me before October. They won't send secondaries after the Aug scores come back???

Well, the problem is that I didn't mark on my application that I will be taking it in August to prevent my application being placed on hold until my August MCAT comes in. I'm only guessing that I will be rejected post secondary to a lot of schools by the time the August MCAT comes out. Although I guess it would not hurt if you are waitlisted. In that case updating them with higher MCAT score can change your fate. I'm only guessing.

Never say never. Your stats are a little on the low side, but you have some decent-sounding ECs. If you're in Texas, I wouldn't overlook the Texas schools ...

Only one school I know of screens pre-secondary - TUCOM.

If you did not indicate that you were retaking the MCAT, followup with letters to each school you applied to stating that you are retaking in August.

This may be a dumb question, but can I ask what a URM is???

Even though your scores are on the lower end, and as long as you don't have to feed your family with the money you are applying with...go ahead and apply! First of all you never know. You must apply immediately though. If you get them in early you may get an early interview, and then who knows. Go for it, worst thing that happens, and this happened to me, you interview one year don't get in, and have to retake next year, and apply again, you have the interview experience and the schools see how committed you are. I had an interviewer (even though my MCAT score only changed 2 points) tell me that he was surprised I wasn't accepted the previous year. Do it up, there is a chance.

Keep me posted on how things have been turning out for you, b/c I am in the same boat.
