I was just looking at some osteopathic medical school websites and i noticed under the requirements it says 6 credit hours of social sciences(sociology, anthropology, phsychology). Is the absolutely necessary? No one has ever mentioned this to me before, I knew obviously about all the science credits and the english but 6 credits for social sciences?

Most university requirements for ''generals" require some sort of social science. Don't They?????

yeah I had a requirement .. but it was 1 course and it was only 3 credit hours. i took introduction to anthropology.

Just take psych 101. It will truly be one of the easiest classes you have ever had. Is it really that big of an inconvenience?

Oh, and I would bet dollars to donuts that if they say in their requirements that it is necessary to have, they won't let you in without it.

Social Sciences are important. You should take Psych 101 if you're worried about it. It'll be a breeze compared to your science courses.

Yeah it is a requirement, but it varies at each school, some schools need 3 credits and others 6 credits. I received a conditional acceptance and upon completing my "social/Behav science" requirement I was officially accepted.

seeing as i'm an anthro/psych double major, i barely made this requirement 🙂. i would suggest applying and then throwing them in the second semester of senior year. they'll be easy a's to relax with but also to keep your grades up so you don't have to worry about much in terms of gpa. and if anyone asks just say they're pre-reqs

/when you can take "Music of the Caribbean" for your major you know you're doing something right

I took a class called "Thinking" that was a psyc class. It was super easy, and actually helped a little with the critical reading for the MCAT. PSYC 101, SOC 101 both pretty easy classes, and interesting also. My school requires 9 hours of social sciences.

damn that sucks .. i really disliked anthropology. oh well .. my major requires 13-23 elective credits and i see that theres a "medical anthropology" class i could take to make the full 6.. at least it won't be some b.s. elective that doesn't count for anything.. cuz psych 101 wouldnt go towards anything for me.

Also, check out philosophy classes. I took an ethics class, and alot of schools offer medical ethics. I also took a world religion class that was philosophy that was really interesting. I have alot of useless classes, but that's what makes us special😛

Man. I can't even remember most of my gen eds. Social science I took intro psych and criminology. Considering I did a lot of usability stuff, I had pretty much everything cognitive psychology down already. One of my most enjoyable non-major classes was probably Architecture theory. A good professor makes a huge difference. Now that I think about, most of my classes weren't really gen eds. They were just requirements to move on to the next level. Mine were kind of killed off when I changed majors and by tagging on german.
