“Mankind are an incorrigible race. Give them but bugbears and idols -- it is all that they ask; the distinctions of right and wrong, of truth and falsehood, of good and evil, are worse than indifferent to them.” (William Hazlitt)

Most of you on here predictably follow the media circus pointing you unerringly at the latest “outraged.” People were getting tired of persecuting Latino immigrants, and it was becoming pretty obvious that they were arresting like 5-10% serious criminals and the rest were just average folks trying to get by. So, onto the Muslims. Let’s all hate on them for a while!
The latest seems to be “AI is scary!” But I really have to wonder how much of the chatter on that is Chinese bot nets trying to get us to slow down, since they certainly won’t. OTOH when you look into the details of these hacking attacks (self-organizing hierarchies of AI agents pursuing hundreds of lines of research and attack to accomplish a goal they set for themselves), and think of all the unsecured internet/connected devices where a rogue program could store copies of itself or steal processing time with no one noticing, its seeming like we’d better just hope that whichever AI escapes has a goal of figuring out the marketing plan to sell the most McChickens, not finding a way to end war permanently.
Even as you make some good points about the media circus, you go on parroting the ridiculous media narrative that legal immigrants have anything to fear in this country.

On behalf of the CCP, thank you comrade!

these posts - i wont copy and link because they are all similar - are classic manipulative and obtuse.

noone is advocating socialism and communism.

DSA is not advocating for pure socialism.

but almost everyone on the left is advocating for policies that provide a more equitable society that you right wingers falsely label as "socialism". this is not elimination of work ethic or not rewarding those who work harder, its about lifting up everyone - yes, in part by putting a cap to what the highest can achieve but not limiting anyone's potential or ability to benefit from hard work (hint getting 3% interest on $1,000,000,000 is not hard work.)

no-one on advocating for policies with a government forcing equal pay or equal hours or anything of the sort. they are advocating for a fairer distribution.

please enlighten us - which mainstream politicians call for government takeover of private industry to be owned "by the people" or more extreme, a politician that advocates for abolition of the US Constitution to form a government by the collective.

its a cheap trick used throughout the ages to generate fear and outrage
It's amusing watching you guys trying to thread the needle of "all countries are socialist", "no one is advocating socialism", "I will vote for a socialist", "Trump is a socialist", and other creative semantics.

You might as well just argue about the actual specific policies you support or don't support or you're gonna end up with permanent joint dislocations.

when you say that california and NY are "worse economically" than louisiana, arkansas and mississippi, you look like an ignorant fool. sorry. its not ad hominem, but there is just not a legitimate way to defend your position.

you think i am a dickhead because i disagree with your political positions, not because i am actually a dickhead.

i dont think i was hurt per se. parents divorced in a crucial psychosexual development stage of my childhood, but i am pretty sure i successfully dealt with that by womanizing in my 20's.
I don’t think you’re a dickhead because you disagree with me. I think you’re dickhead because you actually are a dickhead and you’re kind of a ***** who denies reality when it doesn’t conform to his ideology.

The ALEC data completely supports me. The latest 2026 ALEC-Laffer data provide both a forward-looking Economic Outlookranking and a backward-looking Economic Performance ranking.

In the latest ALEC 2026 Economic Outlook, Utah is #1, Tennessee #2, Idaho #3, North Carolina #4, Arizona #5, Arkansas #6, Indiana #7, Oklahoma #8, South Dakota #9 and Florida #10. All conservative Republican btw

he ALEC 2026 outlook has New York #50, New Jersey #49, Vermont #48, California #47, Connecticut #46 and Illinois #45. All Democrat run

So maybe not the worst. That goes to NY. 47th is pretty damn close though

Rent control, a mainstay of DSA and many supporters here, have a great history dating back to NYC where owners stopped maintenance/burned them down. To me this defies logic.

I have a bunch of rentals and if I could not charge market, then I would be forced to sell vs take losses every year. How does this even make sense.

Lets assume that rent control is a great policy and works. Why not move on to food price control and require grocery stores to cap increases. Why not have restaurant price control and cap what they can charge for meals. Why not move onto UBER share ride rate control and cap that.

Those who support rent control to increase access to affordable housing, why not have rate control on Anesthesiology income? This surely would help keep healthcare/surgical costs down. ;Would this not be a great idea or is it just the typical NIMBY; take from others but don't touch my income?

thats because none of us are doing that - the right wing is, including you.

when we talk about actual policies, you guys are nowhere to be found, or are yelling bogus statements like "TDS!"

interesting and very biased.

by this logic, the one with the best economic outlook - since 2008, 18 years ago - has always been Utah.

how has that worked for utah?

and Tenn, #2? in what world is tenn the 2nd best economic outlook?

oh by their metrics. and their metrics include items such as minimum wage, average workers compensation costs, or whetehr there has been recently legislated tax change.

whether there is an estate tax makes a huge difference in economic outlook, right?

whether a state is a right to work state is super important to economic outlook right? (unless you are Big Business that does not want unions.)

you should realize that everyone on the board has ties to the republican party and/or in their description has the embedded statement "limited government, free markets, and federalism."

i missed it... who on this forum has said they are in favor of rent control?

1789472766090.png

Anyone? Anyone?

some of the other alternatives are better than rent control. however, current systems are less able to implement these alternatives than rent control. for example, building new units costs money that those with capital would rather not invest in because they would rather exploit the dearth of units and increase profits via astronomical rent increases.

fwiw, your other examples are inconsistent. Anesthesiology "incomes" (more appropriately, charged fees) are already limited by government if the patient has Medicare. private insurers cover more if they choose.

interestingly, many in business (and the right) are upset that Mamdani decided to set up government grocery stores instead of food control and are suing. businesses and corporations are trying to get it both ways - limiting access and preventing competition.

You have to get really creative to try to say that Utah has a better economy than California. If California was a country the top 4 economies in the world would be US, China, Germany, and California. This revisionist history is laughable but not surprising.

Logical fallacy. Attacking the source/person and not the data. Bit hypocritical no? Be better

Logical fallacy. Attacking the source/person and not the data. Bit hypocritical no? Be better
no, the DATA is crap, because the source uses sh$tty metrics and algorithms.

like i said, anyone with half a brain can tell you the data is flawed.

you like it b/c it favors low tax states and takes into account right to work states, and workers comp costs. basically, it favors lower tax-burden states regardless of economic performance. it is a useless list

Logical fallacy. Attacking the source/person and not the data. Bit hypocritical no? Be better
true, but it was meant to note that this is political content and it shows where this biased data is coming from. this is not an article that is meant to publish data/science purely for the science.

discussing the metrics however is not attacking the source/person. those are quite dubious particularly with respect to economic health.

this is one of the best examples of the pot calling the kettle.

trump has tried to rig elections. tried to buy elections.
trump is persecuting his political opponents - comey, james, clinton,
trump has told americans to just deal with gas price increase. has ignored military, denigrated decorated war heros.

he actively is trying to suppress free speech and actively trying to take away americans right to vote by instituting what is essentially poll taxes, and sic'd his followers to directly attack poll workers.

he denigrated those republicans who actually stood for limited government and balanced budget such that they dont exist in political power now.

he did try to go down Penn Ave with Jan 6 mob but Secret Service refused.

otoh, as an independent, i agree that he is a populist - one who thrives on "there's a sucker born every minute" philosophy and is a grifter and con artist. he won primarily because he grifted enough americans in to believing he could offer something better, which he has woefully failed to deliver. yes, democrats and left leaners also made stupid mistakes, and they have paid the price (see jill stein supporters and those that supported palestine that decided to not vote dem because they wanted someone more empathetic to their cause)

this is a logical fallacy. attacking the presenter rather than talking points.

do better.

I know libs believe feelings matter more than facts, but at least make a rudimentary attempt at supporting your baseless statements with evidence. Then we can have an apples-to-apples comparison of “who is the most fascistic.”

Show me all those “rigged elections,” and I’ll point to an entire Democratic caucus that keeps voting against voter ID and proof-of-citizenship requirements while a border was blown wide open—something parties only do in order to facilitate mass election fraud (AKA [actually] stealing our democracy).

Show me all those instances of Trump suppressing free speech, and I’ll point to the Biden administration’s collusion and coercion of social media to censor Americans—the largest domestic censorship campaign this country has ever seen. White House, Surgeon General, CDC, and FBI pressure on platforms over COVID, the 2020 election, and the Hunter Biden laptop wasn’t a conspiracy theory; it was documented. I’ll follow that with Executive Order 14149, signed by Trump, not Biden: “Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship.”

Show whatever out-of-context footage you want from January 6th, and I’ll post the full clip. Then I’ll follow it with montages of Democrats literally calling for violence, treating 2020 as “mostly peaceful” while city blocks burned, ANTIFA assaults, and years of rhetoric that treated political violence as righteous when it came from the left, which have ultimately culminated in multiple assassination attempts.

Show the leftover talking points about Trump “denigrating war heroes,” and I’ll post the full context that’s been available for years—which you’ve willfully ignored (the exception is McCain, who had just trash talked Trump just two days prior, meaning Trump's response was an attack on McCain, not veterans). I'll then follow this up with record LOW military enlistments during the Biden presidency, immediately followed by record highs the second Trump 2.0 took office. And there's more! I’ll follow that with Democrats calling to defund the police nationwide while vilifying the actual people who protect and serve.

Show me instances of Trump “persecuting” opponents, and I’ll point out that Comey, Letitia James, and Clinton were not opposing presidential nominees on a ballot. Then I’ll point to 34 hush-money checks turned into “election interference” through unprecedented legal acrobatics, a raid on a man’s home, and multiple blue-state attempts to remove the leading GOP candidate from ballots on legal ground, while also refusing to hold a primary for their own party. This was disgusting, antidemocratic, and, frankly, dictatorial banana republic level **** we're talking about here. Furthermore, Trump could have prosecuted Hillary the first time for destruction of evidence, and for her campaign treating the Steele dossier as a legal expense—the same kind of accounting trick they turned into 34 felony counts against him. He didn’t. When asked why, he said: “I don’t want to hurt the Clintons — I really don’t. She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways.” He had actual decency, yet Dems went on to draw first blood when he left office. So he learned. Yet, even now, what you call “persecution” doesn’t begin to compare with what they did to him, and is frankly well justified.

I know you’re having trouble processing that DJT is your POTUS again. That’s because the politicians you backed failed that badly. You were that wrong. Suck it up. Own it. And next time, do better.

With respect, I hate to tell you but you are defeating your own points.

You said that Fascist seeks to 1 censor/weaken elections 2 persecute opponents 3 not listen to voters 4 use political violence to stay in power. I would not say that Trump has done number 4 recently but you would have to ignore Jan 6th. The other three are in his current playbook. Voters did not elect him to make prices higher or start a war in Iran.

You then sit there with a straight face and try to tell us that Democrats do this more than Trump? You then try to diminish Trump's role in Jan 6th.

You are entitled to your opinion and are free to express it but please know that no one on this forum (even the Trump apologists) are going to take any of these words seriously.
I think you’ve been fooled. Prove me wrong.

Explain Trump’s actual role on January 6: the words he used, what he ordered, and what he did not do. Then give the real body count, the real property damage, and name the elections that were actually stopped.

Then put that next to BLM, Antifa, and the assassination attempts that followed years of Democrat rhetoric treating Trump as an existential monster who had to be stopped.

Trump’s role. He told the crowd to march to the Capitol “peacefully and patriotically.” That sentence is on tape. He did not tell anyone to break windows, assault cops, or hang Mike Pence. He did not walk down Pennsylvania Avenue with a mob. Secret Service refused that. When it turned ugly he told people to remain peaceful and go home. A heated rally speech plus a delay in certification is not “he led an insurrection that destroyed the republic.”

The outcome. Certification happened the same night. Biden was seated. No election was canceled. Capitol damage was a few million dollars in broken fixtures — not cities. The multi-billion number you hear is later security theater and investigations, not the riot itself. Deaths that day: one rioter shot by police, two natural-cause deaths in the crowd, one accidental overdose. Officer Sicknick died of strokes. Later suicides are tragic and they are not “Trump’s death toll.” Compare that to what you were told: a coup, a massacre, democracy dying in real time.

The comparison they don’t want. 2020: $1–2 billion in insured riot damage, the worst civil-unrest loss in American insurance history. Weeks of arson. Police precincts abandoned. Small businesses gutted. Deaths in the teens to twenties. Elected Democrats called it “mostly peaceful,” funded bail, and restrained the cops. Antifa ran nights of street violence in Portland and Seattle with a media shrug.

Then they spent years calling Trump a fascist, a threat to democracy, a Hitler reprint — and two people tried to murder him in 2024. You don’t get to saturate the country with “this man ends America” and then act shocked when a lunatic takes it literally, while treating January 6 as original sin.

The measure. Lives. Property. Whether an election was actually prevented. On those three, January 6 is a riot that delayed paperwork for a few hours. 2020 burned cities for months and killed more people. One event became a civic religion. The other became a weather report.

If you’ve got a different set of facts — Trump’s order to storm the building, the election that never happened, the death toll that isn’t medical examiner fiction — put them on the table. Until then, the “horrible outcome” you’re describing is the media version, not the historical one.

Liberals and the MSM are trying to exaggerate and mythologize the unremarkable events of Jan 6 into some kind of historical watershed moment.

"Unremarkable events of Jan 6"?? &*^%*&*!!?? You might want to look up the definition of the word unremarkable, I'm sure you see it once in a while on a radiology report. I'll save you the keystrokes, yes, I've got TDS as per your "unremarkable" opinion.

Uh huh sure…. What metrics and specific algorithms would you use or you just gonna keep throwing shade bc you don’t like the conclusion.

Let’s just look at debt per capita which is arguably one of the most important if not most important fiscal health measures. Cali is #12th from the bottom. 9 out of 10 of the worst states are democratic.

What is remarkable is that you try to change something that we all saw?

The paleocon machine has no shame at paltering, posturing, pandering, and pontificating.

Man what you are saying...to be as kind as possible to you...is bat**** crazy.

You keep focusing on the phrase "peacefully and patriotically, which cherry picks three words out of a 10000 plus word speech. The broader tenor of the entire speech makes frequent reference to references to fighting, showing strength, and framing the certification as an existential threat to the nation. He clearly knew there were people in that crowd who were ready to and intended to be violent, and he certainly did nothing to discourage that. He not only did nothing to discourage it, he strongly hinted it should happen.

Good thing that you are not a lawyer because if you really believe this you definitely have difficulty reading thru context clues.

No matter how you try to spin it, Trump knew exactly what he was doing when she gave a speech to an armed audience and told them to march to the Capitol. You are right that Secret service stopped him but he was fully intent to walk down with the mob. That is probably the only thing that we can agree on.

Did he implicitly tell them to destroy the Capitol? No.

Did he intend for them to disrupt the process? Absolutely.

This is indicated by his actions later as he took hours and hours to try to defuse the situation even when it was clear that there was violence. Members of his own party pleaded with him (even his own daughter did) yet he did not make any announcement to the crowd to disperse until it was clear that the "movement" was not going to succeed many hours later.

Then you try to convince us that since this attempt did not succeed it wasn't that bad. I don't even think that you believe this.

I am happy to debate with anyone especially with people who feel differently than I do about topics. However, if you really feel exactly as you have written here, you are way beyond reasonable discussion.

complete rubbish.

there are no rigged elections per se. please post documented cases of rigged elections (not reports of 1 or 2 individuals who tried to do so, but true rigged elections in the US. )

people against the trump SAVE Act are doing so because it is essentially a poll tax, which are illegal. all states require some way of identifying yourself, including signatures and signed affidavits, crosschecking with existing databases, etc..

trump suppressed 1st amendment by denying certain specific news organizations this weekend.

the next paragraph shows that you never venture outside the Foxosphere (tho in your case, it is probably the NewsOneosphere).

just recently, off the top of my head, he refused to go to Normandy event because of rain. he didnt show up for 9/11 memorial because he got his panties in a knot because he wasnt allowed to make a campaign speech (fwiw, no president ever has been allowed to do so). he refuses to classify the Iran war as a war so that benefits are denied to gold star families, and when confronted, the one to speak out is Vance, not trump.

your next long convoluted rumblings beg the point. was he actually denied being put on any ballot for Presidency?

he deserved to be prosecuted because he broke the law. muliple laws. he was found guilty in a court of law. the other cases - document and election interference - he got off because of a technicality - that a sitting President couldnt be prosecuted, as stated by his own DOJ.

but then again, Republicans and MAGA are not "the party of law" any more.

yes we as a country should do better, now that gas prices are higher than ever, diesel prices are highest ever, housing is more unaffordable, grocery prices are up, inflation is worse since he came to office, we are involved in another war in the middle east (that he promised not to get involved in), the russia ukraine war he was going to end in 1 day continues, our allies no longer trust us, and he flouts the rule of law every single day.

and you should stop listening and watching the MAGA propaganda that has so penetrated every pore of your brain and body.
