Is it a research abstract or a case report? Either way, I'm pretty sure SPA is considered a major meeting. I say this because many fellowships notate it as such in saying their peds fellows must present something at a "major meeting" i.e. SPA or ASA. I also have never considered presenting the same thing at SPA as I have at ASA, although I DID do a PBLD at SPA which I then submitted as a poster at ASA-- but two different genres. But I woudln't do the same PBLD at both, for example, or the same poster.
ASA is so huge and a little impersonal for peds folks, if it's anything that's peds specific I would present it at SPA, unless of course you're looking for a reason for a free trip to Chitown this year, then do ASA. Other than a few oral poster sessions, there's no peds specific case report sections-- so most of the moderators could give a rats &ss about peds cases as adult folks. But at SPA, there is no actual professor walk rounds or 2-3 minute oral presentation for case reports. Research is different, expecially basic research, cause you can always benefit from adult knowledge/expertise.
That's my two cents!
