Also, as a follow-up, could anyone provide insight into whether or not the guarantee of the BS/MD would be wise given the current situation (economic) and the rising competitiveness of getting into medical school?

UIC definitely seems like the move, but the major downside is the lack of a residential college experience which is a one of the most enjoyable aspects of college. You'll have to check with you brother and see if that's something he regrets.

@Adjet Thank you! Yeah, the thing is UIC is pretty much a commuter school (I think more than 75% commute). Fortunately, it's only like a 45-minute commute each way (from door to door) total and it's completely do-able.

The point other people were bringing up is "what if you don't want to pursue medicine?" or "you get a more well-rounded education", but I am certain I wanted to be in medicine and I'd rather have that focus and tight foundation for medicine than "explore" - to better word it, explore further in medicine.
