Just for some background, I graduated in 2013 and have been working under a research fellowship for the past year or so. Started shadowing dentists in April and from there I decided to take the DAT. Took it last week, and I got some pretty good scores. I know it's relatively late to apply and I was not sure if I was going to, but the dentist I shadow for said I should definitely apply with my stats/scores and I think she's right (top 30 school; 3.6 cGPA, 3.75 sGPA; 24 AA, 25 TS, 25 PAT, 21 RC).
I already have a committee letter from my undergrad school but the application says I can only have one additional individual letter and I am wondering who to get it from. The dentist I shadow would be great, and provide some context for why I want to pursue dentistry. However, I think my current PI would probably give me a better letter. I've been working with him for a year, I play golf with him, he's impressed with my performance in the lab and I have some upcoming publications. In other words, he knows me better, but would not provide as much context about how my character relates to dentistry.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? I know ultimately it's my call, but I figured I would ask some of you guys who have a better understanding of the application process and what schools look for. It's kind of a bummer that I can't add more letters.
Thanks guys!
