Hello all,

I need some advice/help for my personal statement. I am a reapplicant for the 2004 school year and was told to rewrite some parts of my personal statement.

I'm completely clueless as to where I should begin. I really haven't done much in the last year other than some post secondary health related work. How much of my statement should I change? It took me forever to write the first one and it sounds really good now I don't know where to begin. Should I completely restructure it or just add to certain areas.

Do people change the intros, conclusions etc.?

Thank You

Not that I'm all that experienced in this field (as a first time applicant this year), but I would say that if you really like your PS as it is, leave it basically the same. But I think you definitely should tell admissions officers why you should be let in this time even though you weren't last time. Did your MCATs go way up? Have you taken classes? Meaningful health related experience? If you don't have any real improvements, I think it's silly to think that you'll get in this time rather than last time. If you do have some improvements, highlight them and you should gain some attention to yourself. Hope that helps...

The only advice that I can give is if it ain't broke don't fix it.... Just improve it a little. I say this because if you applied previously i've heard that some schools will compare your apps. So tweak it just enough so that it looks like you've put some thought into it this time around. Gluck

You don't have to change it drastically....However, it would be in your best interests to emphasize in your new ps how you are a more qualified applicant.

Since I've experienced this firsthand I would say the more change you can incorporate into your new personal statement, the better. More changes mean you have become a better applicant. Few changes mean you haven't changed very much. If you were rejected the first time why would they take you the second time if you haven't improved and changed yourself very much?

if the schools told u to change it, then change it... otherwise expect last year to happen again.

Who told you to retool your statement? If it was a school, ask the school to be more specific. Since you were turned down last year, I'm sure they'd give you tips. Good luck!!
